Which would you buy?

Id go with the V8, Option #1.

Why cant the Toyota Dealership certify it? Doesnt it just need to go thu their 128 point inspection to be "Certified"?

Im sure it wont be cheap for them. My 08 was certified and it needed nearly $2000 worth of work (brakes, tires, etc)

Very helpful, thanks.

I went to test drive the V8 this morning and found out why it's not certified. There are scratches all down the passenger side. It looks like they parked it next to a bunch of bushes every day, it doesn't look like key marks. And the pin striping sticker was very faded and peeling so I think the car was not garaged. The instrument panel had big white smudges inside the plastic so someone had taken it off and not cleaned it very well while it was off. Makes me wonder what they were doing back there.

I still drove it and it drove nicely, I just don't know if I want to deal with trying to restore the paint. The V8 certainly does have more pull. I understand why you guys like it so much now.

This sucks because this is what makes me nervous about buying a car without seeing it in person first. I specifically asked him via e-mail if there were any scratches inside or out and he told me no. I would hope this is the kind of thing that would be avoided through a Toyota certified but I don't really know... :( Maybe I just need to be patient and wait for another to come up for sale locally, I just don't know how long that will take.

BINGO! If i were you, id wait. Id look for a V8 in better condition, certified.

If it were me, and if i just went with the certified V6, i know id be driving down the street thinking about the V8 and how I liked it more.

I say be patient and keep lookin. Use all the resources: Cars.com, Autotrader.com, Toyota.com (for used), etc etc.

Just so you dont think im BS'ing, i waited and found THE EXACT ONE i wanted. It was a couple hours away, but worth it.

Good luck!

X2. I waited like 3 months to find my v8. Drove 3 hrs to get it. Everything checked out when I got there, so I drove it home.

Absolutely could not be happier that I waited it out and found what I was looking for.
