Which Year 4Runner to Buy

Hi Y'all,

I am new to the forum and need some advice please. I am deciding between two different year models 4Runner. A 2002 Limited at 99k miles and a 2004 SR5 with 78k miles. One is from a used car lot, the other from a private party.

I am finally dumping my Chrysler and looking for a reliable SUV.

Couple quick questions to:

1. Do all 4runners have a sulpher smell?
2. Do all dashboards eventually crack?
3. Transmission issue with 2002 model years,

We have a Toyota Sienna and it just keeps going. Hoping the same is true for the 4runner.

You are opening a can of worms here by comparing two different generations. Anyone with a 3rd gen will tell you to buy the 2002 and anyone with a 4th will tell you to buy the 2004. You should compare the two on your own by looking through the stickies for each generation section and driving each one.
