While everyone is talking about roof racks..

Mine looks like hell. the paint is peeling in four different spots on each side and its all dull/faded. Just the main supports that run the length of the roof, not the cross bars. Has anyone refurbed one of these with good results?:frog:

I have the perfect solution for you. Just refinished the whole stock rack when i coated the frame and wheel wells this summer. I used Krylon fusion for plastic and with some basic prep a solid 2 coats did the trick. I'll get pictures tomorrow if you're interested. should take you no more than 3 hours taking your time. Its some of the best money I've spent on her I'm also doing the plastic valence below the windshield wipers.

Mine is peeling pretty badly as well. As soon as I get the time, I'm going to pull it off, sandblast it and repaint it.

You'll be happy with the decision to do the area below the wipers. I used Krylon too on that, the plastic rear bumper step and the front "valence" where the license plate goes.

I considered doing this too, but my only conern is what did you guys do for the endcaps since they're plastic? I can't painted the rails ok, but would like to match the endcaps pretty well too. Will the Krylon Fusion stick to the endcaps ok? Anyone consider line-X these parts, and if so, will lin-e work for the endcaps? Any help is appreciated

Between the rails and the plastic I would advise against line-x. Krylon fusion will stick to all of it, the only reason mine are still unpainted is because I forgot about em, go figure

What primer did you use for this? Thanks for the info on the line-x. I considered it before, but wasn't sure what it would do to the rails or the endcaps.

No primer necessary, I just hit all the parts with a medium grit sand sponge and finished them with low grit. wipe down with ammonia based solvent (windex will be fine if you let it dry first). paint 2-3 coats and let sit out for half an hour and see the difference back on your car. I'm about to do the a pillars in a couple weeks that will top things off....maybe I'll do them tan hmm

Thanks man! As for the pillar my recommendation would be to polish them. I just did mine and swear by them, glossier than the original. Tape off the rubber pieces, then use a claybar to it first. Then use a foam polisher, either one mounted to a polisher or my favorite new tool, the mother's powerball with Meguiar's new heavy oxidation liquid polish and hit the pillars. Voils, the pillars look better than new. I was going to buy those carbon fiber ones Jason Burtman sells, but once I did this, I never looked back.
