whining sound

I've got myself a 98 limited.
184,000 km
3.4
automatic tranny

I've been searching and reading as much as I can, but haven't come up with a clear answer yet. So I thought I would make a post.

The sounds seems to be coming from the tranny/diff area.
It occurs after it warms up a bit and happens in gear or neutral. In 4x4 or 2x4.
I haven't noticed any performance issues at all.

I just got and have only put less than 1,000 km on it.

My first thought is to drain and fill and see what happens.

Any thoughts?

Thank you

I've heard some speed related whining sounds in different 4Runner's over the years. From what I can tell, it's usually a pinion bearing.

Sounds like the Torque Converter. I have a whining sound too but only in 1st gear due to my planetary gear. I asked a similar question on the board a while back and found out it wasn't my torque converter cuz, it didnt make noise while in neutral or in any other gear except 1st during acceleration.
