White face gauges

AS we all know the dark gauges are difficult to read in certain lighting conditions. I always wanted to change the faces and never found anything applicable. Well now I found ready made white faces that do not require needle removal. Check it out and give me your opinions.

Well I have a white 4runner so it would look pretty good on mine! i dont understand how you do not have to remove the needles though
 
I have seen it before also on ebay...but it doesn't explain if it glows in the dark or what...so I have hesitated to buy them.
If you do...upload some pics. I am more than likely interested in how it looks at night..if it gives the dashboard lighting a different color like "blue"...I might get a set. If they are just plain white...I think they would look good on a white 4runner.
 
White gauge faces

These are overlays that are adhered to the original faces. They can be removed with heat application. Check the web site for more. They slip over the needles with out having to remove them. I just ordered the set and will post pics when installed. I have the same on another car. They overlay the original and the lights shine through the original numbers, indicators warning light icons, etc.
 
My goal with any upgrades is to draw AS-LITTLE attention to my vehicle as possible. I literally want to just blend in with everyone else on the street. After getting my car broken into twice in college, I am over trying to draw more attention, especially since I travel quite a bit to big cities around CA.

Beyond that though, I don't like the white. I agree with SpaceNeedle.

I have no problems reading the dash and would think if contrast was such a problem, the Toy engineers would have gone with white. Sounds like a BS marketing point. It would probably look good on a white 4Runner though.
 
everybodies eyes are different,we all dont see the same thing the same way, (slight color or nighttime blindness, need glasses, etc.) + not every guy wants to look/fit in with everyone else, i myself thrive on being different whether people like it or not. i say if you like the white & its easier to see, surely safer for you, go for it , its your ride, my opinion on the color doesnt mean squat. show pics when done.

I Agree with chaz....it is you ride...do whatever you want ....and if it fits your needs....dont worry about others opinions.

i haven't seen gauges on the 03-05 4runners, are they the same as the 06-09 ones? If so this would work on my 06 then i'd like to see it done first then i'll get one myself.
 
I had some indiglo white gauges in my acura. Pretty neat and easy to install. Never knew they made them for 4runners. Doesnt say if these glow though. Are they just illuminated by stock light.
 
I callled the site selling this and they said it does not glow. It uses stock light. The stock light is amber so it would not look good at all. That's my opinion.

You did Darkie's mod? How tough did you find it? Does the dimmer still work on the LEDs?


And, I don't think it would look bad at all with the stock ambers. I'm very interested in this, and I might pick it up. Although, I'm concerned about the white on white LEDs.
 
I personally don't have any issue reading my "dark" face plates in low light. Then again, my tach and speedo needles project a pinpoint of red light onto the edge of the gauge's bezels, making them easy to spot in most all light conditions. Then again, I *think* that pin-point light deal is exclusive to the Limited models of the 4Runner - so it may not work that way on all models.

That said, it's your ride dude, if you like the look of white-face, go for it. To me, the look is more or less passe. It was a big thing in luxury and sports cars about a decade ago and IMHO, went away for a reason. It's almost the same thing with "carbon fiber" dash, door and console covers. They were cool for a while, but the look is pretty much tired today - unless it is a genuinely carbon-fiber rich car, like a Lambo or Ferrari or ZR1 Corvette.

It was easier than I initially thought. If you know how to basic solder than it will be easy. Yea i agree i would not do white on white. I have the stock gauge and only changed out the lights. As you seen the picture it looks cool. Lexus like. The dimmer works on the LEDs.
