White LED's Behind a Red Lense?

Has anyone used a white LED's behind a red lense? I am wanting to replace the bulbs in the rear fog light mod with LED's. I have them activated with a switch and want them as bright as possible. Any suggestions?
I posted this question in the "rear fog light mod" thread......thought a few more experiences with LED's might get discussed here.

You have yours activated by a switch right? Question: If the LED's are dual mode, where they are supposed to be brighter if used for brake lights - how do you make them where they are in the "bright mode" when they are activated by a switch?

I permanently have them wired so that it's on bright mode. There were two wires coming out of the socket... one for dim.. one for bright. I hooked them up together and connected it to the brake light connection in the socket.

My switch just allows me to turn it on and off.

As far as white and red LED have same light output, it doesn't make any difference. The only difference will be that red LED will give you darker red looks.

In theory, a red lens will partially block/filter out all colors except red. So a red lamp/light should be the brightest output when used with a red lens.
