Dang that looks fun! Does anyone know if the 4Runner can make this trip in the dead of summer with 110+ degree temps??? It would be a good test to see how really good this truck is.

Probably be good to do the transmission cooler mod if you have the V6.

The truck could make it. I don't know if I could!

Thanks Koz and thanks to all of the folks here! I have had my 4Runner a little over a year but it was the recent discovery of this forum that made the difference for me. We all seem to kid about what ithe forum takes from our wallets but the new knowledge and improvements to my 4Runner made this Utah trip more enjoyable. Even though I have made my own choices for tires and suspension, they were informed choices and that is invaluable to me.

..I did not fill my gas cans or three 6 gallon water cans until I got to Moab..

I'm always impressed with the gas "hourage" while off-road. Did you need the extra gas? How much would you take if you did it again?

It looks as if my off road mileage was about 12 MPG, possibly 13 MPG. That was running in 4WD high most of the time and low for the steep sections. I could have gone to 2WD more often to cut down on gas consumption.

It looks as if my overall trip gas use was 18.5 MPG with the roof basket and gear contributing increased air drag.

You could probably carry no extra gas for the 4Runner. The worst case would be launching with a full tank and having to turn around near the end for almost 200 miles off road. If you at least got to pavement you could afford to call a tow truck.

It really was a blast!

It is great to be able to drive the 4Runner all the way there in comfort, off road like crazy and then drive home with confidence.

You'll love getting off road in yours!
