White Smoke Question, Please Help

Ok, so I got home tonight and was having a weird gurgling sound from the engine, found a heater hose to the firewall leaking, clamp had somehow moved up, or was never connected in the first place. Which would explain why I was losing coolant for a while.

But after repairing I filled her up with coolant/water (about a liter) and fired it up, the truck was still hot and I revved it up to about 1700 rpm and there was a white smoke constant and when snapped there was quick white smoke than a plume of white smokeas the rest of the exhaust was pushed out.

This concerned me, so I drove around the block with my head out the window staring at the exhaut (I live in a rurual area no traffic put it in neutral and revved it, happened again with the smoke, than I really punched it, put in neutral again and nothing, no more smoke.

Im wondering if someone might help me diagnose my problem? Its a 1992 3vze v6 engine. I checked the oil/tranny no sign of coolant, looked in the tailpipe with a mirror and no white coolant burn marks.

Im thinking something like a stuck EGR valve/PCV valve.

Please help!

White exhaust is the classic sign of a blown Head Gasket, for which the 3.0 is infamous.

You can do a compression test on the engine and a leak down test on the rad to find out more.

But it only smoke when it is cold, once warmed up it totally stops and does not occur while driving, since it has been damned cold isnt it normal?
No coolant in the exhaust or white marks as I stated...

Yes, that's normal in the winter, you just don't notice it when it's warm.

check the inside of the oil cap.... if theres tan foamy crap in it... good chance theres water in the oil. been there, done that. suks buts how things are with the ol 3.0

That happened to me once...and just once, and it was a pretty warm day. Started my truck up and a cloud of white smoke came out for a few seconds then went away and hasn't happened since. It got me scared that my head gasket was going but no problems since, and that was a couple months ago.

If you were parked on the perfect angle such as I was oil could have dripped down the valve guides and then burned off when you started it. Or so I have been told....

But it still gets me wondering because the smoke smelled quite sweet when it happened to me. :O

sweet = coolant. i would check your heater core and coolant lines and if there are no problems there, the head gasket could be blown

yea, I don't see anything and this only happened once so idk. Could it still be the head gasket if it only happened once?

just keep an eye on the oil when you do oil changes to make sure there is no coolant getting in. if it does, it will not be good.
