Who does their own oil change?

My drain plug didn't have a washer on it. Lost from a previous change? I bought my 08 used so that's what I'm guessing.

Toyota's have a black crush washer, I think they sell for about 80 cents at Toyota, but I buy them on-line when I buy Toyota filters at a reduced price. I don't change them every time. If you don't have one, I don't think that is a huge issue. Next time you go by a Toyota place I would buy a few and see if they help. My thinking is some places that do oil changes don't worry about the washer and maybe even remove them when they change your oil.

The washer helps stops any leaks, that is about it. I use the washer on my 92 Previa, 01 4Runner and 04 4Runner. They all have the same size drain plug, as all Toyota's do, which I think is 14 mm.

What is the crush washer, Composite or Aluminum? NAPA has both for $1.19 each.

It is not metal, it is more composite and has a mesh cross pattern on it. In all of my other cars they were silver thin metal. I am thinking it can crush, so that is why I called it that.

Now, I have had a old 1980 Honda that I kept for 260,000 miles and I left the orginal washer on it, it eventually fused with the bolt. My guess is, with Jiffy Lube type places doing oil changes, the washers are just lost and not used.

Well, NAPA wasnt open, so I went to Autozone. I did not get a new crush washer(couldnt find one), but used the original that is still intact after 39,910 miles. There was still some left!! Anyways I got it changed in under an hour with a K&N HP-2009 filter(again, I wish NAPA was open so I could save $7 on a WIX filter) and Valvoline SynPower Oil.

oil level

hey guys, checked my oil today after it sat overnight. It is right above the first dot. I changed it two weeks ago. Topped it off with 7 quarts of M1 and M-102 filter. Should I be worried? it has never burned oil before. No signs of leakage, but I am going to check bolt and filter tomorrow. Don't believe the crusher has ever been replaced. Any ideas?
