DIY....polish the hell out of the panel (wet sand any peeling clear coat), get it all down to just paint as much as you can, then clear coat it yourself. There are a number of products you can get really good results with without being too anal. I just painted the silver part of my bumper to match the white paint and I didn’t wet sand or anything and you would never know I painted it unless you feel it—-and I could alleviate that with some mild sanding and another coat or two.
I have a black 2003 4runner that I’m seriously considering re-painting the entire hood with color matched rattle cans. My biggest concern is the extensive sanding prep work I need to do to get rid of the considerable etching and poor paint chip correction I’ve previously done. Let’s be honest, the hood of a car is the most looked at/scrutinized panel on a vehicle, so I don’t want it to look wavy.
The place online I bought my color matched paint from, sends a can of clear coat with every can of color you purchase. You tell them what color code you need, what form you want it in (nail polish brush, paint pen, rattle can, or pint for sprayer) and they ship it fast.

I got some bodywork done on my wrecked Prius at a posh place that is "known" for restoring classic cars. The paint started cracking in 5 years. My coworker even went there to completely restore his Focus SVT. He wouldn't tell me the price he spent on it....Nuff said. Went back and the guy said his warranty doesn't extend past 5 years because of the "new type of paint he is required to use." Went to Maaco to repaint a dented bumper a year ago.....I'm am much more satisfied with the Maaco job. Some people are just professional price gougers.

I inquired with a local body shop about clear coating only my hood in flat clear coat.

Got a quote for my 2000 from a Maaco for $600. Yes, it's Maaco, but honestly, the paint thing...really bugs me. It's such a great truck for DD and wheeling/camping/work, but with 200k miles on it, I don't think a "cheap paint job" is a horrible idea at all. What's fun is deciding if I want to do something different. It's Desert Dune down to the fender flares, chrome bumpers. I like that it "never looks that dirty"...maybe I'll do Quicksand or something?
Has anyone tried a "new" color other than the picture of Pssshhevo's Cement one? (Looks so damn good!)
