Who lives in alaksa, or the west coast of canada?

Just like the overly long title asks, who lives in alaska, or the west coast of canada? I'm thinking of making a trip up that way for vacation this coming winter, and i'm looking for any tips on things to plan for, anything from special vehicle prep, to scenic views, to laws that i might not be aware of. any help is appreciated

fortunately for me i don't drink, however the girl does.... might make for a fun stop!

any other things i should know about? I mean i know california will shut down the damn freeways at any sign of snow in the mountain passes, or at least make sure you have chains on board. i would hate to get 50% of the way there and run into something similar that i hadn't thought of before hand. (Of course chains are on the shopping list for a just in case)

any good towns to stop in ? or to avoid?

Other thing i'm looking for, is tire recommendations, yes i'll do some searching as well, but i could use some opinions on something that does good in the snow/ice. T he ones i have now did all right through the snow last year, but i know there is better out there. Right now i'm on some CHEAP used car lot crap, i forget what they actually are though.

Tell me what route you are thinking of . You want to come from Cal , up the coast and through BC up to Alaska ? If you tell me that I can help with some things .
Why winter though ?
What things do you enjoy? Fishing , camping ???

well thats what i'm trying to figure out is the exact route i want to take. Really not into fishing, and camping probably won't happen in winter. Just want some good scenery, and maybe some fun driving. When you grow up playing in the snow, you do miss it when you finally get to move from it.

I drove the Yukon in November last year. Very special trip. You should be prepared for winter driving conditions. In addition, you may run into some times when you and you girl are ALONE on the highway for hours.

I strongly recommend you carry a sat phone and have a check in time I found that even though I thought I was prepared, I was not prepared for the fact that you may be alone on the road. If something goes wrong a sat phone would be your only way to avoid a very bad outcome. You can also ferry from Bellingham to Haines with your 4Runner that is what I did and the 800 miles to reach Anchorage was quite a journey.
