Just go east on Silverado Canyon road until you get into Silverado. Buy an Adventure pass from the general store(next to the library) and keep going east. You'll go past the gates/volunteer center and keep going straight. The road turns to dirt after a couple miles, keep going until you come to a plateau. If you go straight, that will take you to Corona/Elsinore and if you go right it will take you to Santiago Peak.

Can I ask which route you took to get up there?

I drove up Maple Springs Rd (past the gate at the end of Silverado Canyon) to the Main Divide and then up to the peak from there. If I had time I would have kept on going all the way to Blue Jay Campground off Ortega Highway.
