Who takes their dog with them?

How many of you take your dog with you in your 4Runner? I like to take my Sheltie with me everywhere, but she hasn't been in the truck as of yet since I got it... I'm afraid of all the hair she will leave behind.

I'm thinkin I'll start taking her and just spend the $12 once a week and have the local car wash guys clean the hair out for me.

I took my border collie to the vet (not in a create) when I got her home I noticed that the trim along the driverside rear window had claw marks. The trim is real soft and if the dog puts their feet up on it to look out they will leave a mark. Never had this with my 95 Landcruiser. Something you will want to be aware of. I now take all my dogs in a big kennel so they don't touch the trim.
 
My siberian husky doesn't like riding inside a vehicle. She prefers to be in the back in my pickup bed, with the back window slider open. She sheds FAR too much to let inside our 4Runner anyway. I get enough dog hair in my pickup just from the wind blowing in through the slider!
 
A dog in my 4Runner - hell no!! The kids have to check in their candy at the door before they get in and as far as I am concerned the coffee cup holders are still ornamental at this stage.

(Still in that "new car" mode....):D
 
A guy up in Canada sells these really nice liners that cover the carpet and has edges that turn up. Keeps most of the dog hair and all of the scratches away from my beloved runner! Oh, I got it on ebay (also have one in my MDX and had them in my Jeeps- great for accidental spills also!)
 
I figure it's a car and a family car at that. Might as well get maximum enjoyment out of it and not get too anal. The kids get to drink and the dog gets to ride in it. Of course, I tell the kids their life depends on their ability to control their spillage.

rhitt, I'd like to hear more about the liners. Are you talking about Husky liners, Weathertech or something else?
 
I'm just kidding - but I would be interested in more info on the mats (we have 7 bearded collies in fact so I am no stranger to dogs and cars)
 
The previous owners definitely had their dogs in there because of all the hair beneath the back seat. I took our cat in the car, which she hates, and I was paranoid the whole time. She was sticking her arm out of the crate trying to slash anything she cold. I think I just barely escaped without any damage.

Pitbull: We have 5 pets in all, 4 dogs and 1 cat. Eventually they have to visit the vet, so I had planned using a big dog create we have.

DaveS: LOL, I understand this completely. Although it's older, it was owned by a single family and the inside looks like new, not one stain... I'm amazed. Up to now, no food or drinks in the truck and only water bottles are allowed. I'm sure life will catch up eventually and I'll lighten up, but I purchased nice sheepskin covers on the front seats for spillage, figured I could just toss them when it happens and get new ($30 per pair at Sam's Club). I need one for the rear seat for the kids.

I hear you, I have 3 dogs and 12 cats. Pussy every where I look :)
 
I let my Rottweiler in the back, He loves just lower the back window for him and he is happy camper. But I am carefull on turns he, sometime he can't balance very well. And If I take the turn to fast I get claw marks. I also throw a moving blanket in the back for him, makes clean up easier.
 
My lab rides in my vehicle every weekend! He is a member of my family and lives in the house when I am home; why would I exclude him from riding in my vehicle???
Of course I don't really have a choice.....How else do you get them where you need them? He does ride in a kennel for all around safety reasons, and so I don't have to clean his art work off the windows all the time.
 
I would love to take my Pit with me every where I go but the weather is either too hot or cold for him to be in the 4runner alone, also I would not tie him up outside the gym while I am working out for fear that someone might steal him (just not safe). I feel better knowing he is home safe in the house. I do spend a lot of time with my 3 dogs since I don't work. They are mans best friend.
