I want to see this happen. It's great that you're willing to get feedback from others on here to see where there are gaps in the marketplace for the product. Even if your prices come closer to the others out there, you can still try to beat them in other ways;
Most people like the ARB, and it's pretty mass produced, so the turnaround time is great. But it's pretty much the same bumper for every vehicle... And I totally agree, it's chunky. LOVE the modified version from before. So clean and well thought out!
The lead time on some bumpers is ridiculous IMO. I've heard people waiting 4-6 months for them... If you can find a pace that works for you, and maybe do limited runs to keep your commitments at a more level rate. Not a bad gig
Come out with features that make yours unique. Tie them into the design. K.I.S.S. and integrate as much into the design as possible. It should help with manufacturing, as well as provide talking points for others!
Definitely keep an open mind to a Weld-it-yourself kit. There are lots of people that just don't have access to cutting the steel, should save on shipping costs and lead times as well if you have access to the material.
Lastly, on the note of costs... Everything has an opportunity cost. The more time you spend on this, the more time you're giving up with family/friends/etc. You are the only person that can be the judge of that and how 'valuable' that is. And with my whole 2 years since graduation, the one thing I've learned and been told, is make sure you pay yourself first; because really, you're the only person who can look after yourself.
