Unless you buy a new car every few years or have a very consistent wash regimen during the winter months, I don't see how that's possible. I'm in the Great Lakes region. Salt gets put on the roads in the winter, and there are tons of cars here with rust on them.

I believe him, depending on the car. I had a Subaru Outback before my 4Runner, which spent 8 winters in Michigan and Utah (another state notorious for prolific use of road salt), and got washed probably 6 times the entire time I owned it. When I traded that car in, there wasn't a speck of rust on the body or anywhere on the undercarriage. I mean even the nuts and bolts had zero visible rust. The only place there was any rust at all was on the oil pan drain plug where I had carelessly rounded some of the corners changing my oil years earlier.

So yes, 4Runners are more rust prone than other vehicles.

I own more than one, and yes usually I don't hold onto most for that long. But usually there is one that I do keep for a while. I don't give them any unusual attention in the winter and drive them and enjoy them. They are all garage kept. But with driving in harsh conditions, and never doing any special underbody coating or other, they have never shown a spot of rust.

Interesting. I have also owned many vehicles, in nyc/northern nj and have never once had rust. But most of mine were German. No domestic.

Have you looked into WoolWax? It's sold by the same people who sell Fluid Film but it's thicker an lasts longer.
