I used to (Carson City, San Bernardino, Moreno Valley, Stockton, and Sacramento). I had to work my tail off to get outta there. I love to visit there (once a year) but not living there? I can't afford the cost of living. Who knows if i win the lotto, i might move back. :)
 
Sounds like health care is a big issue. All I've heard about is the economy and Iraq. Anyone care to comment on abortion or gay marriage:bonk: So Gay ?

It sucks hospitals have to pay for poor people and illegals to get health care, it should be the government if they make that law. Yes, I understand its not in the consitution (Civics 101, please don't re-hash), but if they made the law, they should have to help out somehow.

Universal health care would take us closer to socialism, and if that happens, I'm getting the hell out of here! I like our "hands off" government and our privledged freedom that our government defends. I drove with a guy from China to one of our plants 4 hours away. A comment he made during the trip sums it all up: "you can argue with your government, we can't do that in China, no matter how unfair they are in some policies." That includes chosing your own health care options, folks. Obama is a smart, charismatic guy, but if he has any incling toward anything remotely socialist, I'm going with McCain. The debates will tell the tale.

OK, I am going to ask a simple question. Maybe Thai can answer it. Is the Helath Care Plan offered by Oboma "Universal Health Care"? I know Sen. Kennedy is backing him cause he feels he is the best chance for universal health care. Oboma did say, you do not have to buy in, it is optional. Also, with his plan, would we still have Blue Cross, HMO's, PPO's, etc, or do all of the compaines go out of business. Also, with Oboma's plan, would he regualte what doctors get paid and who gets what service?

I am asking this because, I really don't know what the plan is. Yes, I know if he is elected, the real plan won't look exactly like his proposal, but I am a little dazed and confused. If someone can give me an educated guess, I think that would help, maybe???
 
I didn't mean to sound too harsh, as I don't know the details of Obama's plan, either. And, I wouldn't really leave as family and friends are more important. But, it would raise the hell out of our taxes, thus giving the same government that is bankrupting social security and now unemployment benefits, did not increase regulations while the mortgage mess was brewing, etc. etc. etc., more control over our money and our choices.
I like a government that leaves me to make my own money and resource decisions. I know that if my taxes increased substantially, my situation would get dire real fast.
My point is that I'm not willing to pay higher taxes to make sure everyone else gets health care. I spent several years not covered, but still got to see a doctor and get prescriptions on a payment plan when I hurt my knee.

Anyone care to comment on the economy?

Actually, in my Family, when Andrew Jackson became president my great-great-great-great granddad said, there goes America and he left the country, he went to Nebraska. (Which was not part of the country then.) It turns out that 11 realatives died in one battle in the Civil War, but my side of the family missed the whole thing. So maybe it is really best to leave the country.

I really am unsure what Obama is proposing, I would hate to have all the insurance compaines go out of business and have the government run it. As much as I hate the insurance compaines (which is a lot), I think the government would do a worse job.

That is the problem with Obama...no one really knows what he will actually do! He is making promises and promises that no one will be able to keep. COLLEGE EDUCATION FOR EVERYONE???!! Is this guy on drugs?? If he gets elected, then i am going back to college and attend Harvard for FREE! :D

CHANGE? What the hell does that mean? It's easy to promise something, but it doesn't seem like he has a REAL PRACTICAL plan on achieving his goals.

How is he planning on financing this healthcare plan of his (or "college for everyone" plan)??? Taxes and more taxes.

So, i don't know what Obama's healthcare plan is...hopefully, with the debates, we will know. But, i doubt it. To discuss anything like that would expose the flaws in his plan...thus, ruin the election for him. My guess is that both sides will not go into any details about their plans.

Again, if you guys really think social or universal medicine is good, then you guys need to research it more!

It depends. Government do provide a relatively small stipend to "county" hospitals and to "non-profit" hospitals. Trust me, these stipends do not cover much of anything. My hospital is a "for-profit" hospital, which means that it does not get any fundings besides tax breaks at the end of the year or something like that. And yes, despite being a "for-profit" hospital, we have to take care of EVERYONE AND ANYONE who comes to our ER. When i was in Miami, our county hospital would get patients that just came over from Haiti with AIDS or end-stage kidney disease. These illegal immigrants would buy one-way airplane tickets to come over to US and then go straight from airport to hospital. Guess what?? We have to treat them. Unlike other countries, we have to "stabilize" them (which could costs hundreds of thousand of tax payer's dollars) before they can leave our hospital.

And yet, we still hear liberals who say how so many of our "children" or "immigrants" who are left to die on the streets by our healthcare system! Bullshit.

So, yeah, this is why many hospitals are going bankrupt these days. Medicare fundings are cutting down. Trust me, we all suffer in the medical field. However, i would still pick our healthcare system over anything else in the world.

Do you know why drug companies are charging a lot for brand name medications?? Granted, they make a profit. However, these companies also spend millions and billions of dollars on research and getting it through FDA regulations. This is why Europeans, Canadians, etc. get the latest and greatest drugs much quicker than us...and at a cheaper price too! FDA (for good or bad) heavily regulates and tests all drugs before reaching market. This requires the drug companies to setup and finance multiple research trials to prove their drug's efficacy and safety profile. (Even then, you will have drugs that are recalled.) After so many years, their drug is then given up to generic companies to make (thus, you have Walmart's $4 plan)...so, these drug companies only have so many years to collect on their investments. Can you blame them for charging an arm and a leg??? What would YOU do in their shoes?? Capitalism is why our country succeeds in this world.

The above is why many Americans are going to Mexico to get their medications or order them from Canadian pharmacy. I don't particularly trust Mexico stuff because there is no regulations at all down there!

In conclusion, blame is to be shared among everyone (FDA, drug companies, taxes, etc.), not just one particular scapegoat.
 
I work in the Medical Device business, mostly simple devices (Thai, ever hear of tapes like Micropore, Durapore, Medipore, Microfoam, or dressings like Tegaderm, Tegaderm CHG, Hydrocolloid?), but they still require safety, efficacy, and stability data. All those things add significant cost to the initial product launch, and also to the manufacturing costs. That's why surgical tape is so expensive compared to other tapes.
My feeling is that FDA auditing and regulations are very much necessary to keep us from cutting corners. My thoughts are thatas the economy globalizes, so will regulations, which should bring those types of costs down. In that logic, Republicans who favor globalization and free trade would actually bring down the costs of health care, especially if drugs became regulated globally (see Mexico regulations above).
Our products are expensive, too, so I no longer rip drug companies. Compare a regular tape plant, and one that makes surgical tapes, and an untrained person will notice the difference immediately (that's the intent) in the cleanliness and order of the place.

I am not too keen on wound care stuff...but i do know Tagaderm and related products. (We have a wound care nurse along with surgeons who are good at it...i have been lazy and outdated.) :D

No, but it is possible that no one will have the required number of electoral votes to win. If that is the case, the matter goes to the electoral college and they choose the next president. If that ever happened, it would make the Florida vote look like a sunny afternoon picnic.
