Who's the next president?

In the Los Angeles area where we are inundated with illegal aliens you can go to any emergency room and find them swarming with these people. Most have no insurance or even a green card but all will be seen and receive care. I have even seen this at the VA. If they are ahead of you in line it doesn't matter if you have insurance or are in need of urgent care. Your best bet is to arrive in an ambulance! I'd like to hear either the donkeys or the elephants address this huge problem.

Not quite. According to the 12th Amendment, the electors in the electoral college cast two votes -- one for president and one for vice president. To win either office requires a majority of votes, which currently is at least 270 electoral votes.

If no one has the required number of votes for President, then the matter goes to the House of Representatives. Eash state gets one vote.

If no one has the required number of votes for vice president, then the matter goes to the Senate.

Here's the amendment:

The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and all persons voted for as Vice-President and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate.

The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted.

The person having the greatest Number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President. But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states, and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice. And if the House of Representatives shall not choose a President whenever the right of choice shall devolve upon them, before the fourth day of March next following, then the Vice-President shall act as President, as in the case of the death or other constitutional disability of the President.

And when a hospital turns away these "illegals," you hear liberal minded people complain about the lack of compassion from the medical field...and how the medical field is neglecting these individual and their basic rights to healthcare. You just can't win these days... :(

Well, illegals can call the ambulance too!! Trust me! :D
 
So, are you saying we may have Obama / Palin or McCain / Biden? By, that would be wierd.

Theoretically, yes, it could happen. Practically speaking, though, it won't.

But in Arkansas, we have had a governor from one party and the lieutenant governor from another because they are elected separately. At the very least, it made for interesting nightly news.

It's a good thing it's not up to me because I couldn't turn down anyone who needed help. Never the less the hospital as a business or a money making entity is going down as hospitals continue to close.
 
I would hope that as a 1st world country, the only requirement to get medical help for a seemingly life threatening ailment is being human. To me, this should never be up for debate.

How care is paid for for those without the means to do so, is a tough problem.

Well, now you know why there are long waiting lines at your local ER. Unlike what many liberals think, hospitals have been taking care of anyone who comes through the ER doors, regardless of financial standing.

I looked at Obama's plan. This is from his plan.

"Universal Coverage
Obama will sign a universal health care plan into law by the end of his first term in office. His plan will provide affordable, quality health care coverage for every American."

So yes, he is wanting Universal helath Care.

It also looks like Insurance Companies can convert and not go out of business.

And you can also search for a country where it's people are happy with universal healthcare.

I don't think that the issue is whether insurance companies will go out of business, it is the actual healthcare that is the issue. Will you get the same healthcare that you get now?? Will it be timely?? Will doctors do more for you?? How long do you have to wait to get decent healthcare?? Taking an example earlier, how long do you have to wait to get a colonoscopy if you're bleeding from your rectum?? What would you consider to be reasonable??

Before you (and RonM and the rest) jump for joy, you guys need to research the countries that already have universal healthcare and see what those citizens think of it. (Hell, just ask our fellow Canadian members.) And for kids, there is universal healthcare already in the USA, unlike what RonM assumed.

Here is a great list of Pros and Cons of Universal Healthcare. I think the stuff Thai has said is correct, it's definitely a hot topic of debate.


Thai there is an interesting system called two-tier healthcare. If I understand it correctly, you may opt out of the 'universal healthcare' system and still find private healthcare with the same quality that you have now. Any thoughts on that system? I'm not trying to argue, just understand both sides.Pros and Cons

That list is extensive...and i don't know too much about the political side of the argument...but i do know that the actual practice of universal healthcare leaves a lot to be desired! It is easiest to ask the actual citizens of countries that have it for their opinion...writing down what it "ought" to be is much different than how it "actually" is.

That still doesn't mean ou's has to suck too and could be much improved but it seems politicians put it on the back burner and make little progress every year.

I agree that our healthcare system is not perfect, but a perfect system is not out there at this time.

RonM, i hope that you do more extensive research into Obama's many "peace on earth" proposals before you start to hail him as our next great thing since slice bread! :D
