Well, I understand that business is business. I wish him all the best in Phili, though I still can't believe that of all places, that's where he ends up. It's been a great 4 years, and hope there's some crystal in the near future for my Ducks :trophy:
Because the hammer is coming, and he's jumping ship. Oregon found out last year that the NCAA will be conducting a formal investigation, and if they're going that far it means they've already determined the Ducks broke the rules and they just need to decide how badly we're gonna get punished.
Frankly, I'm fine with it. Chip is a tremendous coach on the field, and after the Toilet Bowl years it's been fun to dominate the Pac and flirt with the NC. But that was only fun while I thought we were winning legitimately - now that's been thrown out the window and it's obvious that the win is more important to Chip than the integrity, and good riddance.
Besides, the bandwagon fans are annoying. I'm kinda looking forward to being a middle-tier team that thinks 9-4 or 10-3 is a good season again. A little suspense when we play Washington or Oregon State is much more fun.

I was never a big fan of his, but he definitely revolutionized the college game in a brief time. I personally don't think that style will transfer to the NFL, so I will be interested to see what he does. I would be surprised if he was as bold on 4th downs in the NFL as he is in college.

The NFL version of Blur is Peyton's hurry-up offense, and Chip is going to try for something like that. I think his mistake is in thinking that Vick can be 1/10th the field general Peyton is. Dual threat, yes, but Chip's entire offense is based on a dual threat quarterback that can make calls on the fly, and I don't think Vick can do that.

There's so much speculation as to why he reversed direction, but I doubt we will ever know exactly why. Man, I sure hope he didn't pull a Pete Carroll and abandon ship, but I doubt it. And I think he will have a successful career ahead of him, regardless of the mechanics of his system.
I wish Chip all the best in the NFL. He definitely took the Ducks to a new level in his tenure, but they were great even before Kelly came along, and will still be great afterwards.

They are required to interview a mix of candidates, but it will almost certainly be the offensive coordinator, Mark Helfrich.

Actually, his style of offense can be seen in the NE Patriots. I believe that Chip was invited to Bill's house a season or so ago. NE Offense is very much Chip's offense.

Agreed. Though I'm not sure the exact Ducks offense would be the best in the NFL, the spread offense is a slowly but surely appearing more and more across the league.

I more mean the tempo at which he runs his offense. I do think you see more up-tempo stuff in the NFL these days, but he takes it to a whole other level.

Basically, if Chip (or anyone) can get the right folks willing to learn the system, then he should have plenty of success in NFL. Offenses will be very hard to stop. Everything will be on the fly with one-word system. Players have to buy into the system...will have to memorize it like it's the SAT...and will have to practice like the real game everyday. Players will need to have adequate IQ. Folks like Chad Johnson will fail miserably in this system for lack of IQ and dedication. You really really need to buy into this system. No 2nd guessing. And in real time, you need to adjust accordingly with the rest of the team to defensive scheme.
For example, if you, as a receiver, sees a safety inching forward, then you would expect to run a post or sideline route depending on how that safety/formation acts (via film study). BUT, the one-word Patriot system does not tell you specifically to do one or the other. YOU have to recognize that on your own (thru film study). AND you would expect Tom Brady to see the same thing you do. Because in this system, you don't expect Brady to look at you and give hand signals (a la Peyton Manning for example). This system is fast paced no look concept. One word tells you everything you need (formation, blocking scheme, basic goal) to start a play. The rest is up to you and your QB to recognize and follow through. So, if you run a post route, then you expect Brady to throw you a post. Now, if you're like Ochocinco who runs a square out route instead of a post, then Brady will be screwed because he expected you to run a post. He will either be sacked, intercepted, or he will look at the other receivers. This was why Chad Johnson was not used at all during his NE days despite his talent.
Blitzing an offense like this is tough. This is why Brady is so damn good against blitzes. His checkdowns are immediate. Where i think that a system like Chip or NE runs into trouble is when they face a defensive LINE that is dominant. For example, the NY Giants has been an Achilles heel of NE. Why? Their defensive line is simply dominant...they collapse the pocket quickly...all with just 4 people. No blitzing needed. Coverage remains full strength...and when this happens, receivers will have a harder time recognizing schemes and holes in the defense. And when either they (receivers) or Brady hesitates, it is all over. Defense wins. I don't think that Brady is as good as Peyton Manning when it comes to adjusting on the fly or recognizing schemes on the 2nd level. If the 1st or 2nd option is not open, then i think that Peyton does a better job of analyzing the defensive scheme to find the next option. Brady is not as proficient in this. He panics more often. This is why NY Giants has rattled him repeatedly.
But, blitzing Brady is not the answer, even though this is what often happens when your team does not have a good defensive line. See Broncos' attempt at stopping Brady. See Houston's. JJ Watts is just one man.
This offensive system is the wave of the future. It will be a daunting task for defenses to stop...because this requires a defense that is extremely well-coached and has solid veterans who can play out of the box and think on their own (like Baltimore) yet act as one unit. So, it will be quite interesting to see Patriots vs. Ravens this weekend. I doubt that NE offense will have a field day vs. Baltimore's defense.

Agree with this. The play-after-play-after-play part of the Blur offense relies on the other team being in worse shape and not as disciplined, which is why you always saw Oregon run away in the second half. I don't think that aspect will work nearly as well against professional players. The other drawback to Kelly's style is he intentionally recruited for intelligence and speed, in order to make mismatches. That won't be as easy to do in the NFL either, they're ALL smart and fast.
There's still a place for the dual-threat misdirection and high-octane spread, if he can find the right players.
