why do my injectors continually clog themselves?? anyone else have this problem

For some unforeseen reason my fuel injectors in my 3.0 v6 keep cloging themselves. Fuel filter has been replaced 2 times in past 2 years(not recently though/ even still it doesn't matter) and I've pulled the injectors out of the rails cleaned them out. Its winter time now, I need my truck to run right. I've even done 2 seafoam treatments since summer once in may and once in early September and it cleared it up for a couple days but now its back to having no power again. I'm gonna replace the cap and rotor in the comming weeks when I get paid also (plugs and wires are new)to rule out spark (even thoug plugs probably need it again due to the constant missing. And when I say clogged I mean I had to pick out gunk with a smal pick just to find the screen in the injectors. Some one help? Could it be something in the tank? I recently replaced the filter for the fuel pump in the tank when I cleaned the injectors by hand in August. Thanks in advance

If you want to move this to maintenance section mods feel free. I only put it here because it seems to be 1st Gen specific problem

Ps after I clened the injectors by hand it cleared it up for about a month, and I run injector cleaner (Lucas) every month

Try having a motor vac service done and change the fuel filter, if this dont fix the problem then you might want to have them rebuilt or buy new ones.
 
Before you spend money on the injectors you need to fix the problem.Mine has done the same thing twice now.My issue is rust in the tank from sitting with an empty fuel tank.Last time I drained the tank and replaced the filter.With new tanks priced at almost 300 I'm going to epoxy seal the tank this summer.I f you have what looks like mud or dirt clogging yor injectors I would look at the tank and lines.

Yes I normally do. I use one of 2 gas stations by my house. Usually the speedway.

I actually have a pic of one of my injectors from when I had them out. Which ill post up when I get home. What was in the injector was basicly gunk (you'll see in the pic later)

I'm gonna pull them all out again in the spring and send them to witchhunter to be rebuilt and balanced and replace the fuel filter again in the early spring. Its too cold to do it now unless I have too
 
Sounds like a rusty tank to me .I'm with you on it's to cold right now.I bought some Red Kote to seal the tank with I'm trying to wait until it gets warm to do it .They sell it at oRiely's and I bought the Kllen strip from home depot it's the phosphoric acid prep and etch.
 
I'd be looking at where your getting your fuel from. Maybe the petrol is dirty from your local petrol station. I know a few mechanics who have to regularly clean injectors from their customers cars because the petrol they get from the local petrol station is dirty and contaminated.
 
the cheap ways to fix a rusty gas tank...but note, cheap = a lot of work....
Note: Quick write up, not very detailed....

1. Get some Muriatic Acid from your local hardware store or Swimming pool shop. (read warning of the acid....cuz this stuff can hurt you...) and some inside and outside fuel tank cotings
2. Pull your fuel tank out(drain it first)
3. Mix the acid and water at about a 30% acid/70% water mixture(about a gallon or so)
4. Plug the holes with tape. Put the 30/70 mixture into the tank, along with a few marbles(rocks work also) vigorously shake it around for 10-15 min. This will knock the rust off the inside and the acid will help loosen any *bits*
5. Drain tank and check the colour of the acid, if its dark, repeat step 3 and 4.
6. Wash tank with about 100 gallons of water. You want to make sure you get 100% of the acid out of that tank! any little bit you don't get out, will eat a hole in your tank!
7. Follow the directions on the coting after tank is dry. make sure the correct holes are clear
8. Reinstall the tank/fuel pump/lines, etc
 
Have you done a tank .What sealant have you used and are you happy with it ?I used phosphoric acid in a product from kleen strip called prep and etch and I used red kote for the sealant.I haven't done my toy yet but I've used it on several motorcycles and equipment with metal tanks.I cleaned my tank and hoping it will last til summer to aid in the drying process since the fumes are very bad for you and explosive.It's cheaper than a new tank but for the supplies about 75 dollars.

Or for about the same money, you could just take it to a radiator shop & have them hot tank it!

Shoot the outside with a rattle can, & if it makes you happy, coat the inside.

I'll bet the problem is in the tank.
 
There is an 85 4runner parts truck for sale near where I live. Got a working 22RE engine, 5spd tranny, fuel tank and skid plate all for 200 bucks.

Gotta love Craigslist 8)

Lol you gonna snag it up? Sorry I haven't got the pic up yet. I am convinced that its tank related also keep the input comming. Ive been pretty busy with last minute wedding stuff. I get married tonight at 8 new years eve wedding! Whoohoo.

Your shop will hot tank it for $10? The acid is $2-3 here and lets give $7 for the tap water....

thanks the funny part about your reply is that we walked out the theater to another one bites the dust by queen. got a good laugh out of eveyone in attendance. well a little update
i found a couple of used tanks around my area shoud i pick one up and see if it is in any better condition than mine? granted there junk yard tanks but they might still be solid. also found out that my tank has alot of epoxy and jb weld holding it togather....(suspect) i know the previous owners(one of which was my best man at my wedding) and is my best friend.
