Put 5% or 20% tint on their front windows yet leave the front windshield not tinted? It just doesn't make any sense at all. I have 50% on the windshield and 50% on the two front windows and it keeps the heat away. I can't even imagine what it must be like driving in 100 degree weather down the highway with the sun blasting you through the windshield. If you want to go darker get 50% windshield and 35% two front windows.

It is illegal in almost all the states but it's hard for a cop to pull you over for that but I don't want my windshield darker since it reduces visibility at night (it could be the diff between seeing or not seeing a deer or an elk in time) and I do a lot of night driving and in Colorado you generally have to replace your windshield a bit more often than alot of states and tinting it every time costs money.

No tint really isn't going to make that big of a deal while driving since if it's 100 degrees out my AC is going so no problem.

It does if you don't want to be stopped by the police! :happens: I am shocked that you found a place to put tint on your windshield!

Also, i think that it is not a good idea to do it because it will greatly decrease your night vision. IMHO, I think that privacy glass (in the rear windows) is a significant hindrance at night!

Remember, although the sun is bothersome, your windshield has HSEA (high solar energy absorbing) glass, which decreases heat invasion into your vehicle. Polarized sunglass should be the proper way to battle sunlight in your eyes, NOT the windshield!

I agree with it taking away from your vision at night. That would be the biggest reason that i do not do it.

I've had 45% on mine for a while now and think it helps with night driving. I don't have any problems.

I can tell a HUGE difference in heat reduction also.

I've wanted to tint my windshield for a while now. But like RonMAIDEN said, here in Colorado you go through windshields pretty frequently and im not sure it would be worth it.

CORRECT... you will get pulled over sooo fast in some places, you probley wouldnt make out of the parking lot of the place that installed it. Ive seen a low-rider in Fl. with all windows limo tinted, to include the winshield, during the daylight, it was very hard to see out the windshield, I couldnt imaginne had bad it was at night, I thought he was a freaking idiot, he thought he was soooo cool, untill he ran over a little kid cause he could see him.

Is that a true story or some made up bs? Not trying to defend tinting a window, but people use this same situation all the time to try and defend tinting the windshield.

VERY true.. it was an 18 yr old in a lowrider p-u in daytona beach.. if I had a camera, I would have snaped a pic, but it was a few years ago. TRUE STORY.
what reason would I have to make it up ? I personally dont care what anyone does to thier vehicle or how they mod it, its thier money, lol

1) I see both sides of this but both sides are incorrect. Yes, front windshield tint is illegal and correct me if I am wrong Clemson but 5% or even 20% front side window tint is illegal in all 50 states (except maybe for one or two) yet people still do it.

2) People are always asking, "What tint should I get?" and people reply 20% to match the back windows. They say that 50% is a waste . Therefore 50% on the windshield is barely noticeable and would not hinder your eyesight.

3) At night you can hardly tell it's even there, its not like you're putting 5% limo on your windshield.

4) A lot of people stick HIDs in their 4runners, and both 3 and 4th gens don't even have projectors.

5) If for some reason you still can't see with 50% get the defiant bar and put 4 or 6 Hellas on there and you're all set (see thread below this one).

6) This was just an observation I made about members having 5% limo all around and leaving the windshield untinted. If you're doing it for privacy reasons people can still see you.

^Totally agree with that.

20% is illegal on the fronts in 49 states, NM is the exception.

I would like to know how many people have actually tried windshield tint.

Yup, legality is the major issue with tinting down windsheilds...yes, there are outlaws out there that do it, but that doesn't make it right. Here in NC, I don't think we can go darker than 35% on any windows and still be legal (beyond factory tint of course). Our "inspection" routine is now computerized/databased by the state and window tint is electronically tested. Too dark, you fail. You still fail at the time to renew your license tag, you can't get renewed (and are no longer legal for street use).

As for the front windshield...I think we can tint a strip at the top, maybe 4"-6" maximum. Basically it cannot extend below the rear view mirror. I think the law says that it cannot extend below the automaker's 'AS-1 line'.

And yes, the NCSHP has protable tint testers in their cars and can, if they so choose, make you strip illegal tint off during a traffic stop or they can declare your car in violation and cite you every time you try to drive away from the stop with it still in place (which in effect forces you to remove the tint on the spot or leave or tow the car). I doubt there are many a-holes out there that would go that far...but I have seen a guy beside the road scraping tint with a razor with a trooper looking over his shoulder before...my guess is he's lucky the trooper didn't whiff his trunk...based on how the driver looked...lol...I guess that heavy Mexican accent, expired Texas tags and NC driver's license didn't add up to a "pass" on the too-dark for NC tint he had going on.

Hulk, I'd like to see some pics of your front windows and windsheild.

I'll try to get some pics. But it depends on the weather you know? Looks different if its 60 or 85 out. Sometimes when looking from the side straight at the front windows, they don't even look tinted.

If you guys are worried about not seeing at night with 50% on your WS do what this guy did:

I know.....I know.....pick me.....pick me!!!

In Hawaii, its illegal to tint the front. The farthest you can tint is to that black line on the top of the windshield (4 or 5 inches only). The stupid law is that in a regular car the darkest you can go is 35%....period on all windows. For trucks and SUV's, only the back window and the back seat windows can be 5%, but the front windows cant be darker than 35%. Its $95 per window and they count the small triangle windows in the back as one window....lets do the math. Use my altima for example.....if all the windows were tinted darker than 35% that would be $760 ($95 x 8 windows). Believe me.....if I could ride completely dirty I would, but it aint worth it.

When I bought my altima in 2003, I tinted it 5% all around (not windshield though)....it looked PIMP. The next week later I went to the beach and an undercover cop came up to my car and said all my windows were illegal and I would get a ticket. Luckily I still had my temporary paper registration still and I told the piggy that we bought the car like that.....It worked....He let us go.

Long story short.....cuz its illegal in some places.

Here in Michigan you can tint the front windshield the top 4" or the original tint mark, but can't exceed something like 4". Front side windows, you can only tint the top 4-5", the rest of the window can have NO tint. Rest of the car, I have not been able to find any restrictions. I have not seen any cars that have a 4" stip on the front side windows, most are just left plain.

Yes it looks stupid.
