Why do you like Colorado?

So I've been thinking about possibly leaving Montana for Colorado next year. I've got a couple friends in Larkspur (between Co Springs and Denver). I've been thinking about Colorado Springs, Denver, or Boulder. I've visited a few times but probably need to go down there again before I really consider it. I like the outdoors, snowboarding, mountain biking, etc. Just want to be close to activities without being right in a huge city. And I'd like to be in the country just not way out in the sticks.

I know there are a lot of Colorado dwellers on the forum. I thought it would be a good place to get some insight and first hand accounts.

So.... why do you like Colorado?

Boulder is full of A-Holes. If you think you will fit in than any advice I am going to give you is null and void.

Greatest thing about Colorado is that it is VERY affordable. It's pretty easy to make a solid living. Traveling to the mtns on the weekends can be a pain but once you are up there it's pretty good.
 
One thing sticks to mind at the mention of Colorado....dumb & dumber!

Just funny as heck, that movie man! sorry i'm out!

....but i'm sure you'll love it there...because my cousin's still there to this day!:biggrin2:
 
Mild winters and for the most part the snow stays up in the mountains,we obviously have fabulous off road trails with neverending views and for the most part we have very liberal laid back atitudes here. I've been here since I started HS in 1983 and haven't left and don't see a reason I'd would leave.

I often compare the weather in Colorado to the weather in Montana. It always seems to be better there than here. Our winters are long. Another reason Colorado is sounding better and better all the time.
 
You would like it here! I lived in MN for 25 years before coming here and I suspect your winter is close to MN's nasty, long and cold. My only regret was not doing it sooner.

What do I like? The mountains, the trails, the people in that order...
 
I absolutely loved Colorado. It's perfect for the reasons everyone described. I wouldn't recommend Boulder - if you like the area, don't live there. Try longmont or other areas around it.

I don't really like Colorado Springs as much as the Denver area. I really like old Colorado City, but I think the military crowd around the area brings it down a bit. Too many people coming and going - it's getting a bit crowded and it doesn't seem as tidy and clean as Denver has become. Plus I liked having a lot of options, Denver fit better.

boulder is a druggy hippy down... I lived there lol. Are you planning on working in CO, in that case I'd stay in a suburban area so that there are still plenty of jobs for you. If not, find a place in the mountains. From the front range, there are plenty of day trips that will definitely tickle your fancy/
 
My Uncle came out here on vacation one year, never came back to indiana. My parents came out years later to visit him, never went back. Im still here just closer to the mountains now.

Boulder is cool to visit, but I wouldn't live there. Just don't agree with the people.
Denver is sweet kind of a want to be big city but not. I love in Fort Collins currently and LOVE IT!
 
Like they said, if you like boulder - don't live there. It's great to visit and go to a game or something - but don't live there.

The foothills area is great, walk out of your apt/house and it's absolutely perfect.
Job-wise, Denver metro area is where to go. I'm not sure what your profession is.

Larkspur is nice, close enough to Denver to keep you busy - I think it's also where the Renaissance festival is each year. I used to go when I was a kid.
You're also within 15 min of some great trails, I think the annual toyota meet is in Castle Rock that is very close. The outlet mall there is nice and you're 20min from the shopping area around park meadows. It's in the southern end of the city - which is easier to get downtown vs coming from the boulder area. Less traffic too.

I've been to Larkspur several times. I've got a couple friends that live there. I work at Costco so if I make the move I'm hoping to transfer to one of the buildings in the area. I guess I need to figure out which side of Denver I want to be on. I think there are two costcos in the Springs, and one or two in Denver. More options to think about.

I reckon I'll need to make another trip down there this spring to check out different areas and see which neighborhoods I think i'll like. It's pretty exciting to think about. :guitar2:
 
There's one in Lone Tree or whatever it's called now (I haven't lived there since 2006). That puts you close to the south edge of the metro area. Plus IIRC, it's right next to the lightrail station! Bonus.
 
Oh and there are a ton of really nice and some cheaper apartments around that area, tons of shopping if you like that. Far enough away from downtown to get away from the crazyness - but close enough to go into town for dinner. You're also right on c-470 - which will put you right into the mountains/skiing/gambling/up to boulder.
Take e470 and get to the airport very quick too.
