Why do you love (or hate) your manual trans.

I just got my 4runner 3 months ago and this is my first automatic im 25 years old. My first car was an audi (5speed) which was fun then i moved to bmw (5speed 330ci) this thing was a blast to drive, downshifting kicking it sideways it was awesome.
im a firm believer in manuals for sports cars there is no other way to go. this flappy paddle gear box s%^@ is a joke along with tip tronic which is a pathetic waste of time and people who thing they are a "race car drive" or car enthusist.
Anyhow one thing i love about my 4runner is that its an auto. I wouldn't consider to have it in a 5speed due to driving trucks as a manual to me its just weird and uncomfortable.

1) Hands down superior for on-road mountain driving. Nobody can argue otherwise.
2) Can use the starter to limp out of the way in case of mechanical failure. Beats waiting for a tug.
3) Can roll start in case of starter failure, beats waiting for a jump.

3) because autos are for people who can't walk and chew gum at the same time
My wife and I have two new cars that are flappy paddle autos and they just aren't as much fun as shifting a manual.

For me, it's all about the driving experience. It keeps me connected to the task at hand which is obviously driving. I am not one who's much for just stepping on the gas to go. And I also don't have to worry about my shit head friends asking me if they can borrow it when they need to go somewhere.

The manual is much easier to drive in snow & control speed, on the flip side it is more difficult to wheel in rocky and steep terrain. Also no risk of the pink milkshake...

Haha thats why my other cars are stick people seem to want to avoid it i thought I was the only one that felt like that

Everything I own is manual trans aside from my 63 Lincoln. Just prefer it that way.

They all want to learn though which is cool, but at the same time, I don't feel like replacing my clutch yet. I'm hard enough on it as it is some days.

I taught my stepdaughter and her friend how to drive stick on a good two-banana off road trail 
But she still prefers to borrow her mom's car

Exactly man even when people that know how to drive stick drive my car I still cringe
and when they grind my gears i give them dirty looks and they turn there head and say sorry lol

I love mine because I learned to drive in a little 4 popper 5 speed pickup, most of the cars I have owned have been manual trans, it's just better. I'm in control.
One of the biggest things that piss me off about new cars is how much smarter thy figure they are than you, for example my wife's Silverado. The torque management makes me friggin crazy. When I step on the loud pedal I want my truck to move cuz I told it to, dammit, not say "no I'd rather not, you might break me, and I'm too smart for that". If I wanna break it, then it better get good and broke! Or my stupid a$$ I-phone that changes what I type because I "did it wrong".
But I digress. Manual transmissions all the way, cuz I'm a smart feller, and because better, that is all.

I think 5spd's are awesome. But to be fair to the auto world, you can put the rig in first or second gear in our auto 3rd gens and descend a steep hill without too much hassle.

OP, I also love coasting into my spot with the engine off like all stealth and all. :spy:
Last but not least! It's just plain fun, people complain about driving in heavy traffic, well I learned to drive in San Diego, still no complaints!!
If the traffic is just right I throw it in 4lo and usually just crawl the whole way, if you plan it right you really never have to do much clutch work at all

That helps, but the torque converter absorbs a lot of the compression braking.

She was unloading her car of groceries, and the thugs attempted to drive away, however neither one of them knew how to drive a stick shift and preceded to only get 20 feet before they gave up and ran off.

Love - Fun factor of rowing through gears.
Hate - When it won't go into first and you hold up traffic.
Love - No fear of the dreaded pink milkshake.
Hate - The possibility of tanking a motor due to a spirited miss-shift.
Love - Complete control of engine revs.
