Why Dunlop?

I'm guessing that Dunlop tires come with the T4R from the factory, but do you guys stick with them?

I'm guessing the Dunlops on the car I just bought have ~20K miles left on them.

On my previous car - '93 Trooper - I was riding on Michellin Mud & Snows and they were amazing on the road and quite capable when the going got ugly.

Any reason I shouldn't replace my Dunlops with Michelin Mud & Snows?

My experience:

'98 4Runner LTD: OEM Dunlop Grand Treks would not balance. Swapped them for Michelin LTX M+S, successfully. However, these tires were poor in mud, snow and (particularly) ice. They did wear like iron.

My ''03 4Runner came with Michelin Cross-Terrains. These have been great, and at 52K miles have a long way to go. Their performance in snow and mud far exceeds the LTXs, and they are quieter as well. I plan to replace them with another set of Cross-Terrains when they wear out.

no one sticks with them unless they absolutely have to. Most change over to BFG, Nitto or Bridge...

Why Dunlop?

Good question. No-one seems to like them much.

I must say I wheeled with them for about 20,000m before switching to MTR's and the Dunlops held up pretty damn well.

II had the same experience with the LTX- M+S, on my Taco. I replaced them at 35K miles because they were really bad in the rain and on snow. I replaced them with a set of LT REVOs and can tell you there is a night and day difference. I will be replacing the H/T Duelers on my 4Runner with the LT REVOs as soon as the H/Ts start to fail. REVOs are the best all around LT tire I've ever used.

I drove a Taco with the MTR's and found them really noisey.....do you guys not notice it as much on the 4R's? They look damn beefy tho, so I'm sure they're good off road.


FWIW I just put brand new 31X10.5 BFG AT KO's on my Tacoma and absolutely love them.....quiet on the road, nice ride, look bitchin, and wheeled through 20 miles of deep mud and snow to go sledding yesterday.....couldn't be happier.
