All that oil had to do was lubricate. Nothing else.

Umm-no its because RP and Amsoil cant do any better than Mobil 1 and people would therefore stop paying the higher prices for the same results.
Dont get me wrong i still think RP and Amsoil are great oil but is it really any better than mobil 1 or just better marketing to get you to pay more.
Congrats on your long running Toyota.
Oil changes won't prevent a vehicle from needing a valve job. Some engines are more durable than others in that regard, and the 22R is one of those. Maybe my 3RZ has a more performance oriented valve job so it wore out at 210k. I run conventional and change the oil every 4k miles. Upon needing a valve job at 210k I just had the whole motor rebuilt, The extra cost of rebuilding the whole engine is small.
Currently the highest mileage car is a 1966 Volvo P1800 with 2.7 million miles on it. The motor was rebuilt at 686,000 miles just because the owner thought it might need it, but the other 2 million miles are on the rebuild. One thing in common with these everlasting engines is none of them put out much power.
That's amazing and the best testimonial for M1 I have ever heard.I can run mobil 1 for a year and the oil is still honey colored on the dipstick
My toyota work truck is still going and going and going...
I change oil every 15,000 miles and change the filter every 5k or 3 months and only use Mobil 1 and NAPA filters.
Other than a few water pumps, fan belts, spark plugs/wires and litteraly "tons" of tires nothing else has been done.
i dont know if its toyota or mobil 1 but one of the two must be doing something right !
I DONT KNOW OF ANYONE WHO HAS GOT MORE MILES ON THEIR ORIGINAL ENGINE AND TRANSMISSON THAN THIS ..
IF SO PLEASE POST SOME PICS
If you had run synthetic oil in that engine i am wondering if there would have been a need for repair at all. just my 2 pesos :keyboard:
The truck is a lovely 1982 model with a 4 cyl motor...Jealous arent you..haha. before dad died i always made fun of him driving it around but now I am glad he kept it. Its like there is a part of him in that truck..who knows one day his grandkid may be the one driving it around.
This does not look like a odometer out of a 1988 Toyota pickup?
It looks like it's from a motorcycle.
