Why is my gas mileage so low??

If you're going short stop and go trips, it's going to be really bad. With a COVID driven WFH routine now, where I basically go to Starbucks and back and daycare and back, I'm getting like 13/14 mpg this summer and probably even less this winter. Not that it's very good to start with, it a heavy brick shaped object with a 5spd.

I've just stopped looking at the fuel economy gauge now.

2019 TRD Pro. Stock. Consistently average 18.5. Strictly highway and staying at 70mph or below....20mpg.

Does this forum REALLY need yet another pointless, endless MPG thread? There are already dozens of them floating around, including this one with over 1,800 posts, which is already WAY more data than anyone could ever possibly need in order to get an accurate picture of what kind of mileage to expect from their T4R:

Real World MPG with 5th Gen?

Agree with others.
When these engines are new, mpg are bad.
I have less than 2500 miles and mine are still about 16.
Take it in and have them check it out.

16 is good, on both my '10 TE and '18 TRDP, both have only ever averaged 15 mpg at best over their lives

Stock I was averaging 16.
Added the TRD CAI - no change, maybe 0.1-0.2 increase
TRD exhaust - no change
URD MAF - I'm consistently hitting 17.5-17.8 - I also added sliders and started adding skids here.
Very conservative driving. Actually been passed a couple times on a two-lane because I was accelerating too slow from stop signs/traffic lights for the soccer moms late getting their kids to school.

What's TRD "MAF?"

My 2014 TE was not great. Only had 275/70R17's and 2" toytec spacer. Never adjusted speedo for tire size difference though.

Although I did keep a pretty large bike rack on the back. Swagman jackknife 4.

Update from the OP:

I just finished my 2nd gas fill-up and the final gas-mileage numbers are.... (drumroll please) .....approx 14 MPG! That's across 211 miles, approx 5/8ths highway driving.... So, much better than the ~9.8 MPG that I was initially so concerned by....

I'm also happy to report that while highway driving (only) even the internal MPG calculator was displaying approx 19.8 MPG ... so, i'm feeling much better about things with my new 2021 TRD ORP...

One thing is for sure: 4Runner is horrendous in city Driving. Probably, the internal MPG calculator should exclude any idling of more than 1 minute, just because it tends to skew the numbers down so much... If I sit in my car for 45 minutes with the engine & heat on, reading, or talking on the phone (as I do sometimes) it really can sully the numbers...

Anyway, thank you all for your patience, understanding, input, advice, support & guidance! Appreciated!

Just finished my first long distance trip with my '20. Truck had 5,000 miles on it when I began.

230 miles each way. A pathetic total of 16.3 mpg verified by immediately filling up the tank and dividing the gallons into the miles. Jesus, my '08 got 21 mpg on that same trip dozens of times. WTF.

Why not exclude any use that isn't coasting downhill? Then we can say we're getting 60+ MPG...
