Why no love?

This 95 is my first 4Runner, but after buying it I very quickly learned that parts and upgrades are either impossible to find or extremely expensive. Why is there no love for us 2nd Gen drivers?

Parts and upgrades for 2nd gens are cheap, and easy to find. Check your local junkyard, and yotatech.com. I'm on my second 2g, that being said I am going to find a nice "versatile" removable top model soon.

I've been looking quite a bit. Things like shocks, brake rotors, exhaust headers, are all way more expensive. I look for the same parts for like a 3rd gen and it ends up being way cheaper.

There's probably less of the cheap crap made for the 2nd gen as there is a smaller market.

3rd gens however have a HUGE market, and with that a bunch of CRAP. The good stuff is still expensive. I imagine more expensive than the 2nd gen.

There are not as many products out there as some have indicated, but there is still some brilliant mods to had for the 2nd 4runners. The master kit from energy suspension is a great upgrade along with a new set of ball joints, since your doing a-frame bushings with that kit(while your in there, type of thing). The kit is inexpensive. It's basically all labor and a lot of it.
I upgraded the torsen bars with sway-a-way units which were not pricey. Again, though, the labor is a bit. New rear Moog coil springs really gave it a nice stance for cheap $$, and quite easy to install. Headers are quite pricey, but considering the design flaw of the factory exhaust, I consider it to be a worth while endeavor.

Which spring did you get from Moog? I have some serious butt-sag on my 4Runner and would like to get rid of it, not sure if new springs will fix it. The ones I have now are original stock ones.

Yes. It was an unknown name, to me, and research into a new set of bars all led me to Sway-a-Way. They have been producing them for decades and are well known in the Porsche community with high regard. They have worked quite well me previously on air cooled Porsche's.
The powder coated finish on our 25mm units, still looks day one , today, years later after the install. They have held up quite well. I'd wished that Moog had coated their springs that well.

I believe they were the 255 units. You'll find the sag is not just due to the poor spring quality from Toyota. It's also due to the bushing failure in the rear control arms as well. So, you might consider a rear suspension rebuild while your in there.

Thanks! It's good to know that the part is high quality. I will check it out when it comes time to do one on my truck.
