my 2006 v8 4x4 ltd gets all city driving. averages about 12-13...never goes over 40mph in town. hwy, 16.5-23 depending on terrain and speed..usually around 17....23 was once driving out of new mexico at 40-55 mph...when you want it to go....it does...great car...has 62k and hope to keep a long time...

I have had a 4th gen with a V6 and a 5th gen with a V6 and now a 4th gen with a V8 I am really happy with the V8 and as far as mileage I got the dang near the same with all of them. I am happy with my Limited with the V8 wish I would have gotten it years ago

bro its really to depend on your needs or desire. I live in CA, dont take my truck off road, maybe plan to go snow boarding twice a year, there is no snow where I live, but I love my V8 4x4 and don't regret it. Yea sometimes you think, man i wish i had gotten the V6, but then you have one of those days when im driving and i decide to floor it, then i just smile to myself and appreciate V8 power.

You can have a V6 with a 3" inch lift, huge tires, and a driver that floors it every time the light turns green, your gonna get pretty crappy mileage.
The last time I filed up, I babied the V8 and got 17 with 80% city driving (i dont have any mods on mine, bone stock).

I have a 2008 V8 SE, completely stock, and I are rarely on the highway with it.
When I first bought it in late Feb., I filled the tank and drove it to do the MPG math myself. My calculations were that i was getting 16.86mpg city.
I did it again right after my 45k maint. at my local dealer. The math came out to 16.77mpg city (i think i might have had the AC on a couple times).

I haven't owned a V8 since the 70's. Never had the need....nor want. My V6 is MORE then powerful enough for my use....It has no problem what-so-ever towing my 3,000lb camper. If you think you need a V8...go for it...But do you NEED it or just WANT it. Either case..get what you want...it's YOUR money.
Pretty good statement there. I just bought another V6 after my first V6 was totaled. I test drove a V8 and it's good for sure but I wouldn't let it be the deciding factor in buying a 4Runner. The V8 I test drove didn't have everything else I wanted and it was higher mileage. The V6 was everything I wanted so I bought the V6.
My V6's in the past 20+ years consisted of..
A GM 2.8L (extreme dog of an engine).
3.0 and 3.3 Nissan...Both very good engines and extremely durable...Both lasted well past the 300k mile mark. When I bought the 3.0 I was amazed at how much more powerful it was then the 2.8L GM...Then when I bought my 98 Pathfinder with the 3.3 I was amazed at how much more power it had then my 3.0L.
And my current Toyota 4.0L. This engine is a LOT more powerful then my 3.3 Pathfinder. It suits my needs well. My 3.3 Pathfinder had enough power for me...and now the 4.0 has MORE then enough power.

I have to go up rugged dirt switch backs several times once or twice a week
through Pala indian reservation to get to my mom’s avocado grove.
It nice to have all wheels gripping as you slid sideways with a cliff on one side. Most of the time I have my 88 yr old mom & 91 yr old aunt with me so I want to be as safe as possible. So ya I need the 4X4! I‘ll be keeping it stock except for tires and cosmetic enhancements :driving:

This 'is' an excellent statement. It is your money. Do with it what you will but be practical about it.
From your description of riding around your 'older relatives' and that you are not towing anything but need 4WD, then a V6 might very well suit your needs. Also, if you are towing something (with a V6) then check out this 'developing' thread,...

... plenty of V6 owners are towing stuff as needed but they are SMART about 'what' they tow and how much it weighs.
Finally, keep in mind that as you go up in mileage (90K+) with an older V8, you are looking at $1500(+/-) for a timing belt change, etc, etc, etc and probably a day without your truck (rental vehicle). You could also potentially be looking at an exhaust manifold issue (tick) if you know what to see and hear for.
Not dumping on the V8 crowd here :whipping2, but for me,... a dweller of downtown suburbia and sprawl of WashDC/NoVA/MD area...the V6 was a hands-down choice and I ain't looking back.:banana:

DC Runner...No doubt, you were definitely smart about your purchase,... at least you didn't eat/drop $1500 (+/-) to get that TB Chain Package and maintenance done post-purchase. The OP is gonna have to dump more money into his purchase given the potential sales links he provided us earlier in the thread.
I commute (25 mile total), with some commutes on I66 when HOV is lifted and I am seeing 19-20mpg on average? How about you with the V8? Be interested to know because I am pretty certain you ain't towing much behind your T4R around the DC area unless you're a contractor, etc? :driving:.
