Why only one accessory outlet??? Why???

One thing that really bugs me about my new 05 is the fact that there is only one accessory plug up front, and its in an unusual spot in my opinion. The 3rd gens all have 3 plugs up front, which is a great idea. Is there a reason that they went back to just 1?

I was wondering the same thing! The RAV4 even has two outlets up front; a cigarette lighter and 12 volt. I wish I was able to understand Toyota's planning!

Also, the 120v plug is inside the console which took me about a month to discover. I assume this is so you can plug something in and leave it in there out of the way, but aside from that concept it's location is pretty bad as well. Oh well, at least they kept the one in the cargo area.

I didn't recall seeing a 120v plug inside of my console. I am figuring I don't have the 120v converter installed. The front accessory cigarette lighter type plug does have 12v/120v printed ontop of it but I doubt it is actually 120v......well at least my cell phone hasn't burn up yet with the 12v charger using that socket.

Hmmm, maybe that is a new feature in the 05? Its inside of the center console facing the rear of the vehicle, and you turn it on with a button beside the center diff lock button.

Are you sure it doesn't say 12V/120W? That's what mine says.

Nope, that's been there since 2003. It's the 115V AC power outlet standard on Limited models and optional on all others.

It is weird how Toyota only included one power outlet in the front. I don't know though, I've never even touched mine. But if you do need another one, the cigarette lighter kit is available and that'll give you 2.

Yeah! It says what you said! I added one more 12v outlet today by installing the ashtray kit. It took me all of about 5-8 mins.

I do NOT have the optional 120w inverter which explains why the electrical plug doesn't exist in my center console.

Just remember that the ashtray kit limits you to 120W total between the two outlets in the front. The paperwork that came with the ashtray kit I installed mentioned this.
