Why Only Two Interior Colors?

I noticed for the last 15 years that Toyota for the most part has only offered two Interior colors Gray or Beige with some black here and there.

Does anyone remember when Toyota offered interiors in Blue/Navy. I think a blue/navy interior on the Nautical Blue exterior would be nice.

I sat in a Dodge Caravan in 03 or so and it had a navy blue interior, it just didnt seem right. I guess the materials and shapes of newer cars are more suited to earth tones.

I wish the SE not only came with black cloth seats, but black carpeting as well. Even a darker grey would be better to hide stains over the light grey surface which really won't hide much at all.
Also, not on the topic.. but I think they need to lose the orange'ish guage/interior lighting as well and either have it changable (like Scion's radio) or give it a blue or white color ... or since I've read that you have to soder the boards with different LED's, that they could at least make it easier to change the colors through aftermarket means.
Pety, I know.. :)

I had an 82 Toyota Celica that had a blue interior. I think that's best in the 80's. It kind of reminds me of a red/maroon interior on an older car. Yuck.

I'd like Toyota to do something bold like offer a few colors in general since thier current lineup is quite bland and they offer nothing in a bold and truly sporty coupe and is affordable.

I agree. I was surprised/disappointed the first time I saw an SE and the carpet was just the same light/medium grey.

My '90 Toyota truck had a blue interior. I couldn't imagine what that interior would look like with leather. Neither could I picture a green in fabric or leather..

Yes, Blue interiors were availiable until 1993. 1994-present has been Gray(Stone/Ash), Brown(Taupe or Oak). On some models Black interior has been an option.

I assume the answer is it saves money somehow. Sort of like how you could have a Model T in any color so long as it was black :D You don't see too many blue interiors on cars these days. I seem to remember you could get the newer '04-06 GTOs with a blue interior, and I think I saw one in one of the newer 2 seater verts from Mercedes (or maybe it was a BMW?). I can't think of any others. My old '70 Cougar vert has it's original blue "comfortweave" seats. Of course back then buyers had a lot more choices for interior colors, I think on the Cougar you could also get black, red, white, green, saddle, light blue, dark blue, and probably a few others :)

:iagree: with GatorGreg. Gray and beige interiors, along with black work with many more exterior color combinations. We all know the more you buy, the more you save.

The only time I think a blue interior would look good on another color outside of blue would be white. White is almost like a universal color that can go with many interior color combinations. Which I think only the light blue S2000 came with the optional blue interior.
