why swap a 3.4L

When my 3.0L dies I will do the 3.4L swap because it may sound silly to some but, it's a Toyota engine. And you can use alot of the 3.0L parts and tranny. and there is a conversion kit for it.
Maybe I am backwards but if I wanted a ford or Vortec I would buy an old Bronco or chevy truck.
I know that it is comman to swap different engine into different trucks in the off-road crowd just not for me.
I had a 81 TA that had the lame 301CI V8 in it. I could have saved alot of money and put a small block chevy 350 in it but I did the same thing and put a big block pontiac 400 in it.

Swappin` engines
The 3.4 is a good conversion from the 3.0 V6. You just need to have the wiring harness, and computer. Of course you need to modify a few things like exhaust, fuel lines and rad hoses, but it is pretty much a bolt in and go. As far as the supra motors fit...Only if you start out with a 4cyl truck. The transmissions and transfercases are different from the 4cyl to the V6. I`ve heard a rumour that the 4.7L Toyota has the same bell housing bolt pattern as the V6`s, but it`s just a rumour. Nobody that I know has tried it...yet.

Well i did the swap on my automatic 1990 4runner 4wd. I did all the wiring and everything. It runs great! Oh yeah it's also supercharged. I've raced a few mustang Gt's and all i got to say is, I can beat them off the line and at 125mph! It's crazy i remember trying to go 70 on the freeway. But now i've got to keep my foot off the gas.
I did the swap because my 4runner motor had over 250,000 miles on the 3.0L. It still ran with no problems but i could tell it was getting weaker. It was also starting to use a lot of gas and so i figured why not.
All i have to say is, The 3.4L swap is the best thing done to my 4runner. The gas mileage is awesome compared to the 3.0L.

I did the swap because my 4runner motor had over 250,000 miles on the 3.0L. It still ran with no problems but i could tell it was getting weaker. It was also starting to use a lot of gas and so i figured why not.
All i have to say is, The 3.4L swap is the best thing done to my 4runner. The gas mileage is awesome compared to the 3.0L.

Well lets see,
Costs: The 3.4L swap will most likely cost less. With the 7MGTE there will be lots of cutting and fabricating. I've seen a few of them but i know for sure that you will need hood pins because the 7M is longer and you will have to cut your upper radiator support. Also i have not seen one were the A/C was installed.
Dependability: Well i'd say that these motors rank about the same. (for a daily car, not racing etc...)
Power: The 7MGTE block will of course handle more power. The 3.4L stock is 190HP. I don't know what the hp is for the 7MGTE but i'd guess around 200HP.
Overall If you just want something more powerful to pass cars, pull trailers, or simply go fast, and have a factory look with a lower budget go with the 3.4L. If you want more power to race or whatever then the 7MGTE will be ideal since you can modify those motors up to 1000HP with very little internal modifications.

which swap?
I am glad to see that there are good results with swapping the 3.4L for the 3.0L. I just got a call from Off Road Solutions in CO and they just finished building a kit to do the swap with an auto transmission for my truck. They give you everything including the wiring. So hopefully it will go smooth. My buddy is picking up the kit in CO on June 21st and bringing it down to me here in AZ. I will post a reply to let you guys know how it works. Wish me luck as this is all new to me!
