Why you should change your fluids regularly

Ugh and the picture loads sideways. I have no idea when the previous owner changed the Trans fluid last. My front diff and transfer case were pretty clean. Front diff was black I guess because the owner was lazy and never took the undershields down

Tell me about it. PO 200000 miles no maintenance.

Looks like a trans flush machine. Well worth it in the long run versus dropping the pan since it gets all the bad fluid out of the torque converter and cooler. Not exactly cheap though. I want to say I paid $200 for the last one I had done, which just covered the cost of fluid(synthetic) since a friend has a machine.
 
Owners just don't want to dump maintenance money in their rides. I cant understand why also.
Then when it breaks they change out all these unnecessarily parts trying to fix the problem.

I about three days I am doing a DYI trans flush, the cost will amaze you and the efficiency even more. For the cost of the fluids, a magnafine filter, and a small diesel evac pump, I will replacing my fluid with Mobile 1.

I am adding a trans cooler and a fan with thermostat and override switch as well. I am also going to do my power steering. I will video it and post it.

Yes it is. It makes life a breeze. took about 10 minutes to setup the lines and for it to swap the fluid.


The truck shifts so much smoother now! It is a night and day difference!

Doesnt have a change able filter per say. The lower valve body strainer is what is there. you can take that and clean it out and put it back in
 
Use the built in one in the transmission.

5gal bucket with 10 qts of fluid in it and an empty 5gal bucket. Run the out line to the empty bucket and the in line to the bucket with fluid in it. Start the truck and put it in neutral and keep an eye on the levels in the buckets. Same thing that machine is doing just more redneck.

Just to be 100% sure, that means using the lines going to the internal cooler located in the radiator?

Also, if using this technique, any tips on getting the level right after the fluid change? Because the fluid level needs to be checked with engine running/fluid warmed, that means that I cannot ''pre-fillup'' the transmission after the change, I'll just be totally guessing how much I need to add. I don't want to over-fill, or under-fill, which shall not be very good for the transmission.

If someone has done it and can provide some quick tips and make this job easier for us :D
