wierd ticking noise after turning off engine

After turning pulling into the garage and turning the engine off, there was a residual wierd ticking noise coming from the engine, I had the ac on btw while driving, is it the car just cooling down? Ive never heard it before.

do you mean this is something you hear after you get out of the vehicle? if so, i have experienced that sound as well -- moreso on hot, hot days.

i think it's normal, i've seen it on many cars including my 4runner. i think it's just the metal expanding/shrinking from temperature change...

Like they said normal noise, my Bimmer does the same and the airplanes (engines) that I work on do it also. I think I would make some soulds too if I were that hot and started cooling down. Although, mine would be a more painful sound. LOL

On my '96 4Runner, I'd hear a repeated "bzzzt" sound after shutting-off the engine...sounded like a big wasp trying to escape. But it was just the engine purge valve...

Haven't noticed it on my new '04.

Could just be the sound of metal (metal contracts/expands upon large temperature changes). Or perhaps any parts are still in motion (which I would doubt unless otherise you then have a big-ass problem.) I rarely doubt the performance because Toytas ae very reliable cars, Thankyou Japan! Cheers!

Are you sure it is in the engine bay and not the catalytic converter
(s) on your truck?

Most tick and crack cooling down when you shut down the engine.

It's normal. I have been having a 96 4 Runner for 10 years now and I've always had that noise. Someone explained what it was to me but I don't remember.

It will be really noticable after you been stepping on the gas pedal pretty heavy. Try to make sure the engine is warmed up first before you start slamming the pedal to the metal. Hot days will add to the ticking. Check your oil levels too, sometimes it a sign of low oil.

Are you on crack?! It is merely the catalytic convertor cover cooling down.

I believe the (wasp) like sound you are hearing from beneath your hood on very hot days after running the A/C is the refrigerant returning from inside your SUV back into the compressor under your hood.
