Wife hits light pole

Wife leaves work 4:45 am
comes home wakes me up 5:15 am

Said she hit black ice took out a alum. light pole. She was ok , (important thing) , she went up a snow back and took out an alum. light pole. I thought the mighty Escape was done for , I look out in the garage to see a popped out fog light and a gouged up bumper ...... thats it !!!

I thought she was exaggerating , so I went to look at the pole , sure enough she took it out , busted the street light off the top. Big a$$ pole , I could not believe the very minimal damage to the Escape . No air bag deployment either.

Just goes to show you the toughness of Escape , pretty soon the gov't will use them instead of the H1 Alpha ......lol:D

Just glad she was safe . She did get a ticket for driving to fast for conditions which is a state law (4pts), so ...... add that to the 3 point ticked she just got . Wait till my ins. co. see this . Strange thing is that she is the most conservative driver I have ever saw.

The important thing is that she's OK, which we're all glad to hear.

I once read that many of the poles along streets and highways have a breakaway design to minimize injuries in case of a collision. Sounds like she hit one of them.

From what I've read the Escape is a rebadged Mazda Tribute, so I'm thinking they're sound vehicles for the size. That pole could just as easily come down on your Wife's side of the vehicle,I've seen those results.......ugly,really ugly. Grab a hold of her and give'er a squeeze from all of us!:hello:

Glad she's ok... Engineers are so smart! Make a light pole that withstand weather and time yet still break when they need to break...

I'm glad she's ok aswell.

Mike- I'm pretty sure Fall's and his wife reported it. It would be highly coincidental if the cop was just there.

Falls- Can your wife take driving classes or something to reduce the points?

Yes we called the cops out to the house. Because of my current profession I would not let her get away without reporting it. She's not like that anyway.

Yes the breakaway poles are pretty slick design . I have also seen what happens when things go wrong.

As far as the Mazda Tribute rebadged for Ford Escape or rebadged for Mercury Mariner ...... I don't know what came first the chicken or the egg....lol.

Thanks for the well wishes , I will pass them on to her. I feel bad as she gets her first 2 tickets of a lifetime and a crash within such a short period of time.

The cop came over and we sat and talked shop for a while , he's pretty cool . He actually came here to a Village /Township in Wisconsin from LAPD . To be with and closer to family , man some of the stuff he told me ......... seeing DB after DB all shift/nite long. I've seen more than my share of them but not like a few a night.

get it looked at

Glad she's ok, Falls.

I can't tell from your posts if you intend to repair the Escape or not. I'd recommend you do. I have seen the absorbers take some damage with no significant damage appearing on the outside cover.

Good idea rook , I'll check that. Karen ( my wife's ) son is going to do it with me at our house . He is a collision expert and a certified Toyota , Lexus , BMW and Benz certified painter. So will check the absorbers , never thought of it , thanks .

I'll let u guy know how much the light pole cost's . I'm kind of curious .

Glad that it was a small incident. Tell your wife that she is just as good of a driver as my wife! :D My wife just had a run in on the side of our Sienna...but, glad that she was OK to hear my heart breaking as i did a walkaround my van! :D

It's all good...it's a good thing for me to keep on saying this over and over again....
