I know this is the million dollar question but I'm going to ask anyway.... Will 285's fit on a 17x9 (4.5 b.s.) rim on a 2004 with 3" of lift? I'll admit it, my truck's pretty much a mall queen and doesn't see a lot of trail work (I live in Dallas and am lucky to get to Colorado once a year). I'm not scared to do some minor plastic triming in the wheel wells and don't mind a little rubbing when I do get to stuff a tire. Since this is my daily driver, the 285's will be AT's not MT's. Thanks for the help.

ToyotaDoodz pretty much sums it up correctly 
Stick to A/T's and you should have minimal rubbing. Anyone that says otherwise is smokin something. Just trim where it rubs and you should be fine. You might notice some rubbing on the frame and if you do, you can try to upgrade wheels with a diff offset/backspacing or just be careful.
Keep in mind that most rubbing occurs during full turn and at full compression. Of course this is usually apparent during offroading as it's rare that you'll have a fully compressed front at full lock (turn) on the asphalt
