Will iPOD work by plugging into AUX

Hello All. I have a brand new 2006 4Runner SR5. I'm thinking of getting an iPOD to use with my car stereo. It has the Aux in the console.

Will my iPOD work by simply plugging it into this Aux jack in the console?

So all I would need to do is instead of pluggin in headphones into the iPOD, I would connect a wire from the headphne jack, into the Aux jack?

I'm assuming it would be a wire with 2 male ends/plugs?

That's right. I've been using mine that way for the last month. Really works great.
 
Wow... That's great to hear, thanks.. I'm assuming that the quality is just as good as if you were listening to a CD? The stereo must amp the single comming in from the iPOD..

Girlfriend bought a new '06 4Runner Sport today ... we went right to Best Buy. Purchased a $5 male/male plug, plugged into headphone jack on iPod and AUX jack in center counsel..

Sounds like complete crap .. can't even make out what song is being played..

Suggestions?
 
That sounds like maybe a faulty wire you bought, or a faulty aux jack in your console.... Mine sounds great, no static, no hums, perfect clarity...

First thing I would do would be to try a new cable, take the one you have back and get them to exchange it.. Second if that doesnt fix it, try to plug something else in cd player, tape player, anything, if that fixes it it sounds like its the ipod... If the new device still has issues I would be stopping by the dealer to have them fix it.
 
Good news... I bought the cable from Radio Shack and my iPOD works great through the AUX jack. Of course you have to turn the volume up on the iPOD.

I'm thrilled that I can now have my entire CD collection in my 4Runner and not have to lug around 200+ CDs.

I do plan to upgrade the base deck that came stock on the new SR5. It's got power but the sound quality, even for radio and CDs, is just bad IMO.. Maybe next Father's Day.

Just make sure not to turn the ipod volume all the way up, go to about 70 -80%...any higher can cause distortion to your speakers (which you may or may not be able to hear) which overtime will do damage to your speakers and you will start to hear a lot of pops and crackles down to blown coils.

trim the ipod up to 90-95% volume and use the actual stereo for controlling the loudness of your speakers. This is the best way to get accurate volume between your aux/radio/cd player.. otherwise you'll have the aux cranked way high and switch to FM and get blasted to the moon ;d
 
I dont have a aux in my 4Runner but you guys should try getting a dock for you ipod.

I plug my ipod into my home stero system. Sounds much better with a dock!! Its also better for the ipod and doesnt overheat as much.
 
I just wanted to let you all know that, Yes, my iPod works great through the AUX jack while running on battery. However, I bought one of those cig lighter power supplies for the iPod and there is major interference, crackles and even a little feedback noise. I quickly unplugged it.

So, I obviously won't be using that power supply while listening to my iPod in the 4Runner, I'll only use it to charge when driving.

However, I'm wondering if that surge or interference is damaging the iPod in any way even when only charging.

Anyone have any idea?
 
Are you using the Belkin Charger with the built in amplifier? I have that and expereince the same problems, regardless of if I use the mini jack port on the charger or not, I always get a lot of feedback. I had the same problem using the charger in my mustang.

I used it in my mustang for a long time and I never experienced any damage or ill effects, its just an annoying sound. Now I use my Ipod wall charger and have it plugged into my power invertor in the console.
 
what type of connector do I need to get exactly to listen to my ipod through the AUX? I have the Belkin now, but really hate the bulkyness!! Thanks!!

and you don' need to get an Ipod either. Pretty much any portable audio type of device will work.

Even your old Sony Walkman cassette players would work with the AUX in.
 
It really makes sense to buy a good cable if you want good sound. I purchased the monster cable from Best Buy ($19-$29) but well worth it.

I turn the volume on the ipod all the way up, then use the head unit to control the system volume.

No problems, no distortion, no engine wine....perfect.
 
yet another stupid question

Apparently i was not gifted with common sense - so besides the male to male cable, do i need to purchase a separate charger?? Thanks:confused:

Only if you want to be able to charge it in the car, not required to play it, but handy to have.

If you are looking for a charger I would not get the Belkin cigarette lighter charger... I have had lots of issues with mine. I would pursue other brands.
 
Thanks! I was thinking of the Monster Ultra-low Profile charger. I just wasn't sure if i needed one. I had the Belkin TuneBase FM unit and hated it- so now i am just gonna use the AUX.
