will ome coils only work with ome shocks

i am going to buy the ome 880/891s from toytec without the shocks because, well really that just seems like the easiest coilovers to get my hands on without looking at junkyards/ CL or worrying if i have the wrong ones. eventually i know i will end up needing new ones. i have found plenty of shocks for less then the ome ones but am not sure if they will work together, how will i know if they do? I see alot of people with rancho shocks but will those only work if i have LC or tundra coils? Also will the ome coils work with stock shocks

if this helps have an 02 limited 4runner, i am using this as my DD and will only really go offroad when i go hunting, fishing or camping so i dont really want anything i dont need at the moment.

I would recommend running OME 90004's with your front coils. They are made just for those coils. I know people have used other shocks but the OME comfort shocks will give you the best ride quality etc. For the rear you can use whatever you want. I hear good things about the bilstein 5125/5150's...

Great question! I've been wondering the exact same thing. I want to get OME springs, but don't want to pay the high prices of OME shocks. I'm new to all this so I don't know if all shocks/struts for the 4 runner cost this much, but I figure there has to be something cheaper out there. I look forward to ay additional info on this topic!!!

The stock front struts have the spring perch lower than the OME, I think...

I called toytec today and asked pretty much the same question. Dylan answered the phone and was great in answering all my questions. He said that normally he recommends OME shocks with the OME coils but that the procomps he has will run with the rear OME coils just fine. For the fronts I am going a different route so I can't answer your question there....

I am running rancho's with OME's currently. The only thing you'll run into is that the "trim packer" for the driver side front coil most likely won't work for any other shock besides the OME shock. The perch is designed differently so I had to fab my own trim packer. Other than that there should be no reason why any other shock won't do the trick.

I have 881/890's with 882's going in cause they installed the wrong ones the first time.

I ended up getting the sport OME shocks and I read somewhere that if you get the other ones (not sure of part #'s) but the non sport ones are softer. which I kind of wish I had.

not sure of the difference between the two offered by OME but my rear is pretty stiff.

put 120lbs of sand bags for the fun of it and really didn't seem to change which makes me believe its the shocks not 890 coils.

I bet you're right. Hop up and down on your rear bumper. Then pop the lower bolts off your shocks and slide them off the lower mounts. Jump back up on the bumper. I bet that it is MUCH softer if they are anything like the OME shocks I got rid of.

I got Rough Country shocks with 881's up front to save some $$$ and now wonder if that may be the cause of my rake and 285's scrubbing. I don't think they're quite long enough and may be too soft. Then again, I have the OME Nitrochargers in the rear and they ride like crap..probably because I have no weight back there with the 891's. I would get the newer OME shocks or Bilsteins, as I've heard they result in the best ride quality.
