You mean to tell me there are 97 homes in the area you want to live that matched your exact criteria? Like 3BR, 2 baths, 1/2 acre, dead end street, etc. Really?
Why is this such a big deal? Houses cost several hundred thousand, potentially millions of dollars. This is a place you will potentially live the rest of your life.
Why would you NOT take your time to locate the right one?
It's stupid to jump on the first product you see without detailed comparison, be it a house, car, coffe pot, you name it.
" I'm really in the mood to spend a couple hundred thousand dollars, but I really don't feel like researching the product before hand"
Said no one ever.
Again, older houses don't all look the same. There are thousands of floor plans to choose from. You don't pick one of 10 floor plans and the vague area and then are done.
I read threads ALL the time on here about people looking for the PERFECT 3rd gen 4Runner for months or even years. They look at DOZENS and when they don't meet the proper criteria, they move on to the next one. They are willing to fly cross country just to look at a potential candidate. These people don't spend more than maybe $12,000 on one of these for runners.
I'm pretty sure that house is a bigger investment.
And no, I'm not looking for reassurance. This is the off-topic Forum, and this is an off-topic thread. I was looking for some lively (funny) argument and I found it. I knew this was a hot-button issue going in. This actually kind of made my day.
