winch assistance

hey...i recently ordered ARB bull bar and i am planning on adding a winch...i am not sure if i am ok with a 8000k winch ... is any of guys using a 8000k winch on their runner ...if so does it do its job ? pleasee any assintace is appreciated....:boink:

General Rule of thumb when deciding on a Winch for your vehicle is take your vehicle weight and multiply by 1.5. Example: Vehicle weighs 4500 lbs so 4500x1.5= 6750lbs so a 8000lb winch is appropriate. Some people prefer buying one that is rated for twice the vehicle weight.

Lowest amp draw would be a hydro winch but cost goes up.

Any electric winch will draw allot of amps. There are some the draw more than others but the amount is way up there regardless. The best thing is to get a good battery and a hand throttle or keep you foot on the gas while you pull.

The bigger you build your runner the worse it will get stuck. 1.5 times is a minimum.

I have had my Warn HS9500i for a decade come mid March. I have had good luck with my Warn.

The general rule I posted of 1.5 times vehicle weight is exactly that a General Rule. Some of the things you also need to consider besides vehicle weight is type of terrain you will be wheeling. If you are in Mud or doing hardcore rock trails it is better to be closer to the 2 times vehicle weight as both those terrains offer higher resistance when stuck. There are a lot of variables and mathematical equations that go into recovering a vehicle, grade/ slope degrees, mire depth(how deep in the mud/ sand), number of wraps left on the drum for starters.

Hydro winches are nice however if you have to perform a recovery when your engine died you will not be able to. Electric winches draw a lot of current but if your engine dies you can still use it shortly on just battery power.
