95 4runner 4wd. Front driver side window only goes down, not up. Pulled the internals looking for anything odd compared to the the passenger side. Only the glass and wiring remains inside.
I took the motor out and connected it to the wiring harness, and when the motor only spins when I tell the window to go down. I got a new motor and the same thing happens. This is when the motor is free standing, not connected to any other part.
If I understand correctly, the 'regulator' is the 4 metal peices and 'gear' like mechanism that is one piece that slides the window up and down when the motor manipulates the gear [aka sprocket].
People say the regulator is bad when I tell them through email, but I don't think they realize the motor won't turn 'up' even when it is not connected to the regulator, just plugged into the harness. Am I confused on what the regulator is? If I am, so are several parts websites.
At this point, I'm assuming it "must" be the panel that houses the switches itself. The problem is it is 200$ discounted. Not paying that much. I guess I'll have to go to junkyards though it will be extremely inconvenient right now, this isn't even my car.
I want to take it apart and clean it but don't want to risk messing up what isn't broken if that unit isn't actually the problem.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
