State law doesn't allow medical exemptions that would allow you use tint. At least that's the rule in CA. I have no idea about other states. Otherwise I would just get a note from my Optometrist.

GB - never messed with any back up tint? Those back lights are pure stock. One great inexpensive mod I did was to make the lower reflectors live or "refelctor mod" added a bulb and wireing so they work as running, break and turns I think?

I did remove the extra tire and tucked up the tow light plug to clean up the back a bit.

The back up light is a Pep-Boy's special - nothing fancy. I run a glow switch from Raido Shack to control the light.

Not everyone lives in beautiful California Josh. Some people may not be able to roll the back window down in a blizzard or torrential downpour.

What someone really needs to invent is Window Tinting that fades like those sunglasses.

So in bright sunlight, the window gets dark, but at night it will lighten up.

Or take it one step further and have this feature electronically controlled from a switch. Using nanatechnology and liquid crystal polymers that change their structure to allow or disallow (is that a word?) light. So when you see a copper (five-oh, Bizzie), simply flip the switch and lighten up the windows to normal.

They already use similar technology in some rear view mirrors. They have the auto dim feature that darkens them when hit by light. I'm sure it would be much more expensive for all around windows....

..not that $1000 isn't already expensive

I hate to bump this thread, but I got my windows tinted today, 5% on all rear windows and you can still see threw them quite well. On my 02 I don't remember there being any visibility at all. I remembered the tint being much darker. Anyways, I plan on getting them tinted even more, so my question is, should I get 5% or 20% on top of the existing 5%.

NOT 5% on top of 5%!!!!!!

This is 5% over 20% I know the picture is dirty, but it shows it in direct bright sunlight.

The back sides are also 20% over the 5% I believe, but they also have the 30%(ish) factory tint under that.

This is what 5% over 5% will get you on your back windows. Hard as hell to see out of, physically impossible to see into.

I'd just throw a set of 20% all around on top of the 5%, you will like that. :bigok:

ok everyone i got a question. i have the stock tint on the rear 5 windows. i hear that it is 35% tint on those windows. if i want to match that color tint on my driver and passenger side windows what % would i need??

and an even more complicated question? if i put another layer of 35% over the stock what would i need to put on the front two windows to match that? if anyone knows or has an educated guess let me know asap.

your ride looks great. no comments on the whole popo magnet topic. you obviously are aware of the risks of running dark tint.

here's my more conservative setup. 20% front windows, 35% others.

Wow Looks great! Where did you go? and how much did they charge? I usually go to Tint Connection in Costa Mesa. they quoted me 200 all around.

So after spending over $1,000 and 8 or so trips to tint shops, I finally have my final product (I hope.) The first time I went fairly light since it was my first time tinting a vehicle, and then spent countless trips back darkening them. The final outcome is limo all around, and double limo on the very back window.

The exact combo:
Rear: 5% over factory, then another 5% over that.

Rear sides: 5% over factory, and 20% over that to get rid of the last bit of visibility into the truck from outside.

Front sides: Dark tint (I am unsure whether they used 20% or 35%) with limo over that. The first layer was used to kill the green in the glass, then the limo was applied afterwards.

Front Windshield: 5% strip on the top 4-5 inches.

i did 15 over the factory and 15 up front. im 98% happy w. it. the 2% un-happy is during bright days you can see the diff in tint color...so im thinking ill go back and throw 20 over the 15 up front and 'should' match pretty even. i havent had many issues seeing out of them...

i had a hook up so mine set me back a buck 50 but 200+ sounds about right
