should i get in channel window visors or just type to tape onto outside wiuth adhesive tape? which is easier to install? are they hard to install?

I have the ones that tape outside and above the window.
Easy to install. You might hold it in place where you like it and then have someone mark a few points with painters tape.
Remove tape, start at one end and work it in place along the length.
The tape is pretty aggressive, so you don't want to have to pull it off once you stick it.
I am not familiar with the inside design, but would worry about wearing the seal etc.

speaking from experience, I would get the ones that tape on the outside. They tend to be a little bigger thus working (keeping water out, enabling you to open the window more) better. I've had the weathertech ones where they adhere to the INSIDE of the window channel. After constantly seeing that they wouldn't let my window go up or down without noise (sometimes it wouldn't let me close the window). I gave it a few months for it to "set in" but it never really did. Once when I was washing my truck, one of the them fell out. I said never again.
I have the outside mount visors. They are from Toyota of Japan. They cost alot, but IMO are worth it. My previous SURFs had them and I loved them.

I HATE my in-channel ones. They screw up the tint on the front windows! I'd rip them out, but they are pulling the window seals with them and I don't feel like buying new seals just to get them off.

I had the outside ones on my Z71, but got the in channel ones on my 4R because I think they look better. I think the in channel ones keep rain out better but I also believe they're causing my seals to leak. given the opportunity to do it over again I'd get the outside ones for my 4R as well.
I'm not going to switch now because I've already messed up the seals and as I said I think in channel looks better.
Both of my sets were made by AVS (auto vent shade)

despite which looks better or not in your eyes, I think the outside ones are the way to go. The in channel ones actually put a lot of stress on the window motor and I have heard that it will even void some warranties that include the window motor.

Actually, I completely agree with this. I had the WeatherTech in channel units on my last SUV (front & back) and absolutely loved them. I think the tape-on ones look tacky and are more prone to problems since double sided tape does eventually loose it's sticky-ness, but still leaves a residue on your paint. The in-channel ones bend into place and I have never heard any problems that people have had with them (short of the ones mentioned here)
* Void warranty? Seriously? That sounds absolutely preposterous. Though I never experienced it with the WeatherTechs, I could see some of the bargain brands messing up the lining though.
Luckily, I quit smoking, so I don't even need a set anymore. But, if I wanted to get a pair I would go with the WeatherTech in channel set, hands down
To each his own. Make sure they are weatehrtechs though. The AVS ones are junk.

I have had both on many different cars. I have the outside version on my 4runner. I prefer them. I have used the in channel 3 times, once with no problems. I had them on my Tundra and it ruined the window regular in the driver window. I never had to replace it, but it had slack in it. When rolling the window down, it would jump due to the slack. I have the weathertechs on my wife's BMW and they absolutely suck. The driver one falls out, slips, even blew out once and weathertech replaced it under warranty. But the biggest issue I have is it slips because it doesn't tape in the channel, it just pushes up into the channel and is held by the fit. But after a while, it slips and causes my auto up/auto down to mess up and I have to reprogram the window again.
I would never buy in channel again, personally.

Definately the outside ones that tape on. I have had them on all my vehicles and never had an issue. While I can understand the in-channel may be sleaker, they seem to cause more problems than solutions. Especially of you have an older runnar, window motors are older too! If you have tints, changes in temperature may cause them to stick.

i had used the weathertech, it was fine before it starts to fall out. now im using the wellvisors brand and it works great, its more of the jdm style/versions from toyota.

wellvisor are the jdm look. has hardware to keep the visor in place with the tape install too.
i think someone here actually paid the full price for the one that came from japan, it suppose to have toyota name on it.
i think the wellvisor matches the 06-09 body than the 03-05, it blends with the fatter fender.
