I was actually going to recommend Safelite
Uneek had a windshield replaced on his Camry & was very happy.
I'm sure you read the Thread recently about this 4th Generation 4Runner that went through Safelite & they dented his roof.
Sorry...can't think of any other place.

I've always had good luck with safelite. My theory is that its not always the corporation, it's the people who work in the individual stores. It doesn't matter what the service is. There are 3 Denny's restaurants within 5 miles of my house - and I will only go to one of them. The service sucks at the other 2.
That said, some people hate Denny's based on one bad experience and will never set foot there. That doesn't mean they are all bad...and yes I know there's a big difference between a Lumber Jack Slam and the roof of your 4Runner looking like a lumber jack slammed it when replacing the windshield on your pride and joy.
But I digress.
I've had several windshield chips repaired - not on the 4Runner though. The repair is pretty straight forward...I've gone through "Mom n Pop" places as well as Safelite with success and the quality of the job was fine either way. No matter who you go with just get it done as soon as possible. It's easier for them to work with a fresh chip and the chances of success are much better.

Git'er done, sooner than later, because the T4R windshield isn't that durable. My pinpoint deteriorated within a day into a full crack that needed replacing.

I've never used one but have you considered one of the do-it-yourself kits? I wouldn't be surprised if the repair shop used the same stuff.

I was told this by my insurance company the other day.
If it's a chip/crack and the damage is less than the size of a dollar bill then repair is usually the way to go. Have to get it done quickly, especially if you have cold or wet weather approaching because if water gets in the damage and starts doing the expand/contract thing then - as the other posters said - you'll have more problems.
They suggested calling the dealer and going with whatever service said dealer recommends (I took that advice with a pinch of salt of course).
I don't know what insurance you have, but mine will repair windshields for free and replace 'em for just the deductable. Won't effect the premium as it's not driver error.
