if I could remember correctly, the very first time I called to have my windshield replaced, they told me that because Colorado has a lot of glass claims, that the only thing they do cover is the rock chip repair...I may have to call them back and find out again to re-verify

Curious if anyone with a Limited has had their windshield replaced? My 15 LE just cracked over the weekend, literally a half an inch below where the wiper rests.
Anyways, my larger concern is that the windshield has built-in defrosters for the wipers - not sure how this will impact my replacement?

It won't, it's one of the options listed for an aftermarket replacement.

Glass Protection
I live in CO which is why I purchased the Perma-Plate glass protection when I bought my vehicle. 300 miles on the vehicle and I'm driving up to Denver when I get my first chip. Immediately used an epoxy chip repair kit - i have tried several but tend to get best results from Rainx kit. I will wait until spring to have the windshield replaced.
Living here the protection package ($699) will pay for itself - provides for up to $5000 in repairs over a 5 year period. Given my insurance deductible this will pay for itself with the second replacement - which is very likely here.
I did replace the windshield in my Forester and noticed that I had a choice in glass - so when replacing, see if they have a harder glass you can upgrade to.

what your roof needs is a complete stripping then epoxy paint primer. windshield removed .
I had this done on my 1996 a sedan front rear windshield removed. rust blisters on the roof but not as bad as the picture you shown.
came out very good and yes rust was under the glass 21 yr old never replaced . I had the front windshield replaced because of the glass being cloudy due to the age of that plastic material in the middle. new is much better very clear ..
1996 windshield had no cracks . I have seen new windshields crack they are very thin. also many do not have a rubber to protect the edges from hits. a glass hit on the edge makes a good path for crack. 2016 T4R has no edge protection . I installed a black rubber tape to cover the edges of the glass.

The Honda that I still have did not have the option to have the perma-plate Protection, I did opt for the windshield protection through Toyota though

The coating they put on the windshield didn't protect against the first chip - of course I was traveling about 75 mph when I got hit. Why does it always seem to be right in your main line of sight ?my '16 developed a crack on the passenger side about 2/3s of the way up the glass. had to have it replaced. just noticed a new chip in the glass yesterday. :yell:

Doesn't matter :tea:....the TransAm didn't come out every day, and didn't have a long commute to work; worked nights so our daily drivers were not on the road for very long with the masses
Ok well this just happened to us... drivers side had one of the bullseyes that was repair a while back. However, sometime between last night and this morning something happened and we now have a crack that goes from passenger side up about 8" and then takes a hard left to the drivers side. Called the local Toyota Dealer and they want $625 for the glass on its own and probably another $200 for install (they use a mobile shop to come in and do for them).
So that begs the question.... Who is using aftermarket glass vs. OEM?

Had a long day in the hills, and the next day, when washing my truck, I found a 6" crack starting from the base of the windshield, almost centerline. I did not notice any impact. I'll be calling my local glass repair shop.
Now about Safelite: they have pretty much a monopoly. There are actually at least two different forms of Safelite. One performs glass repair, and the other company is in business only to provide management of same for the insurance companies. And they handle all the major insurance companies, so if you call in a glass claim, a Safelite employee handles it. And typically recommends Safelite Glass Repair as the repair shop.
Further they have a history of switching you to Safelite, even if you request your own local shop. They did this to me. I cannot vouch for the quality of their repairs, but I am wary of monopolies.
