Windshield hazing

No, not like fraternity hazing...
I have a "haze" on my windshield, but only NOT in the area of the wipers' path. In the path of the wipers, the windshield looks clean. The haze doesn't look like water "spots" but I guess it could be water staining or something. I don't park near sprinklers.

I can't clean it off: I tried water. Then Windex. Then my favorite trick: swirling/scrubbing non-gel toothpaste on the surface with a towel and rinsing off. Nothing has worked so far.

Anyone else had this problem (only around wipers) ?
Would this "clay" I've been hearing about take it off?
I probably can't get a new windshield covered by insurance because it's not a safety issue - since I can see through the middle area fine.

I've searched previous posts, but I've only seen water spots as a recurring problem, and I don't know how this can be water "spots" since it's a full haze...

I have hazing on my windshield as well. I believe it is from the very unique material of the dash. When it sits in direct sunlight, the dash heats up and releases tiny particles. They attach to the inside of the windshield creating this "hazing"
 
car wax seemed strange.

eskimo - the haze I see is on the outside. Yours is probably all over the whole windshield though, whereas mine is only outside the wipers' path. Nice avatar.... better lookin than mine.

agreed eskimo....daaang.

as for the car wax, it is strange yes but Meguiar's makes an excellent cleaner wax that will work wonders on your window. (some people in here will disagree) ive been using this product for years and it gets my window cleaner then any other window product can and adds a nice protective layer.
 
Cool, I'll check it out. I'm sure it's very inexpensive since it's by Meguires.

Hey - can you put RainX on the windshield after cleaning/waxing it? Because I apply that stuff to my windshield like every 10 minutes and CAN'T go without it anymore.

its only $8 for a bottle that will last you a few years. since i only use this on my window only.

you probably could do rainx but honestly...you wont need it. i NEVER use rainx i personally hate the stuff. if you apply a layer of wax it last longer then rainx and just as good

all windows. i have this hatred for wiper lines so i never use the rear wiper..and waxing the windows i never have to. the side windows too will stay pretty dry during rain and snow has a hard time sticking to them. (especially at hwy speeds)

Could the use of that much RainX causing a buildup be the source of your hazing?
 
Ok, maybe "every 10 minutes" is a slight exaggeration. I put Rainx on at least 3x/year, and/or when I notice no more beading. To answer your question: I have no idea if the haze is a result of a buildup of the stuff. Could be.

I'm gonna try this wax. I think I actually may have a 1/2 bottle of it somewhere, it looks familiar.

You guys really should elaborate on that. There's a few people in here who swear that wax works well on glass and back up their claims. Tell me why we shouldn't use it? Just curious.
 
yes please share? ive been using it for years and use to detail cars at a honda lot, this is how we did it at the lot too? so if there is some reason we shouldnt place wax on the glass enlighten us?
