Windshield Poping noise

About a month ago I started have a high pitch rubbing sound coming from the top of the windshield between the rear view mirror and the passenger side of the windshield. The only time I hear this is with bumps and rough road surface and so forth, but I never hear this noise when on smooth roads unless I hit bumps. I should also note that I never hear this noise on rough roads when it's raining.

I did do searches on this topic and seen many say that the factory left clips in the A pilers? Does this rubbing sound I hear sound something like it could be that? And if so, would that explain why the noise goes completely away when it's raining outside?

I called the dealer on Monday and made an appointment to take it in on Saturday to get that looked at and a oil change, and also having the temp display looked at, sometimes half of it is only lit or half of the back lighted display is darker then the other.

When I mentioned the windshield noise to the service guy, he said he never heard such a problem before but would check it out. Is there anyone who can offer any thoughts of things I could inform the service guy what it could or might be?

And also, has anyone else had any problems with the orange backlight on the heating controls flicker on and off or only light up half of the display before?

And lastly, when I have the vents turned to the floor vents, the air just barley comes out but blows out with ease when just turned to the top vents. Has anyone else had this problem and could this be a easy fix that I could do?

Not long after I bought mine, I had a tapping noise on the driver's side of the windshield. Turned out that Toyota forgot to remove one of the clips used to hold the glass while it's installed in the factory. Maybe yours has something similar.

So did your windshield noise not occure when it was raining out? I also notice that I dont have the rubbing sound in the early morning either, but it starts up after a while and things warm up.

Just the opposite -- mine was more pronounced when it was cooler outside.

Keep us in in the loop on what the dealer finds. I have somewhat the same issue but then again explaining any type of noise a car makes is almost impossible. Basically I have the same issue with my windshield where every time I hit a bump I hear a creaking, popping, rubbing sound . The weird thing I it started at 500 miles and I did not mention it to the dealer when I brought in for the first oil change because it stop doing it for a coupe of days.

Whistling sound after a winsheild replacement

This is kind of off topic, but along the same lines.

Several years ago, I went thru about 4 or 5 winsheilds in my 99 Chevy Tahoe, over maybe 4 or 5 years.

One of them, after it was installed, whistled like crazy at highway speed, it was so loud, you couldnt hear yourself think. let alone listen to the radio or have a conversation in the car

I took it back to the installer and they would not take it for a drive or ride in it, but they did pull the clipped on metal surround that covers the edge of the glass while I was there, and there was a gaping hole maybe an inch long in the cealant, so there was an air gap between the glass and body, which was causing the whistling.

Years later the center roof at the center top of the winsheild rusted thru and started to leak water, so I took it to an auto body shop. The installers (one of them) had damaged the metal work in the edging of the windsheild and it rusted thru - costing me about $500 to fix, plus another new windsheild

I guess my point is, pay close attention to any damage anyone might make at the edge of the windsheild, less you get rust damage over time

It might sound like its coming from the top, did you make sure nothing fell down at the base of the dash? becasue of the position of the windshield, it may sound like its at the top when it really just resinates at the top. Not doubting, just trouble shooting.

I had whistling for a very brief second when I first bought mine and then i parked it at a long term parking lot at the airport over a vacation. Long story short, it was raining inside my runner after I drove it off the long term lot.... but at least it wasn't whistling anymore!
I had to get my windshield resealed, they didn't find any clips though.

The weird thing about my noise coming from the windshield is that it only usually happens when it around 30 degrees and when the windshield is wet. today it was around the 42 to 35 degrees and the windshield only made noise once or twice, but on Friday when it was 32 to 30 degrees it was like I had a band in the car.

sounds like you just need to take it in, probablly not a seal issue, sounds more like the clip thing, rattling around, it gets more space to do "percussion" when the window shrinks with cold weather.

Well I took it in on Sat for the oil change and to have them look for the noise. They took it out for a test drive and then looked around and said it was a faulty plastic clip thats near the top center of the windshield above the rear view mirror. So they ordered some parts and they are also going to replace the wind defector on the sunroof just to make sure, but they said the noise I'm hearing is definitely the plastic clip in the windshield and that there is also a service bulletin on the problem. The past couple weeks it's been 30 or less degrees outside, right now it's 60. so I'll see if it does it today while driving or not.
