Windshield side trim - adhesive or no?

The rubber trim that comes down from the roofrack along the side of my windshield has come loose. It was replaced a few months ago when I bought it, maybe improperly. A Toyota mechanic told me it is supposed to have adhesive, but I see no trace from the factory or the replacement, so I'm skeptical about that. It looks to me like it has a hook-shape to the channel. I bashed it in with my hands (no hammer near my new windshield), and it looks right and held for the highway drive home. I'll throw a roll of duct tape in the back in case it comes apart again, but what's the proper solution?

This is "Windshield Moulding Outside LH" in the shop manual I downloaded. It's called out in a pic of windshield components, but not mentioned in the instructions for R&R of the windshield. The moulding blew out on the window side and might have pulled out of the roof and been lost, had I not opened the window and grabbed it. I'd like for my wife and kids to be able to drive this truck without worry of things like this happening, any advice would be appreciated.
