Windshield Washer Clean-Out

The '91 SR5 I bought recently had very weak window washers up front. I started to disassemble the tank to get at the pumps and found lots of cardboard-like contaminants floating around in the bottle. When I saw that there was a suction strainer on the bottom (front) pump, I was yet again stoked I had bought a Toyota. After cleaning the glogged strainer and making sure the lines were clear she's good as new.

These cars are so damn easy to work on. I liked my Audi, but I don't miss it.

I once had a bunch of ants drown themselves in the washer tank of my 90 t4r. They must have gotten in through the tiny vent hole in the cap, why I don't know. They made it past the pump strainer into the tubes feeding the nozzles. Fortunately they have small plastic filters in the tubes before the nozzles which prevented the nozzles from getting clogged with ants.

Ants sure are crafty little buggers. That's good to know about the filters at the nozzles too. One of my nozzles still has one weak jet, I'll pop it of and clean that too.

I'm just so impressed that Toyota had the foresight to put in strainers and filters, now I'm starting to see why these have the great reputation they've earned. It's the little things...
