Winshield has creases.....weird.

So...the other day, I got a small knick on my windshield from a rock on the highway. It grew to a long 8 inch crack. No biggie....State Farm covered it. So...today...the guy that came to install it at my workplace. Cool........but when he finished, I went out there to see and there were like creases in the window from certain angles. A few vertical creases. Is this common in glass? Should I complain and have them replace it again? If you're on the inside of the car and look across from one side to the other, you'll notice the creases. There are a few in there. Is this a defect? Input please!

I had the same happen to me. Yes, it is a defective replacement. I couldn't see properly out certain portions of the windshield. The best way to notice it is that road sign lettering would change in your view as you drove past. It's like having moving bi-focals going in and out of focus. Take them for a test drive if you have to but have them do it over.

Check who made the glass, there are some pretty lousy windshield manufacturers out there. You could try to insist on oem, but not likely the insurance company will cover you. But insist on a new shield - if they can't make it crease-free, what are the odds it will behave correctly in the event of a collision?

Take it from someone who has had many really bad dealings with sweet "State Farm" They will try anything to get things fixed on the cheap.

I have had my problems with State Farm and I bet they are using a glass supplier who buys seconds.

If they question you take the Truck to a Highway Patrol Station in your State. Let them inspect the window.

I have used Safelite Auto Glass company and if i need a windshield, i'll go back to them again.

I will report back to State Farm and get a new replacement. Is it that hard to get an OEM toyota windshield? The invoice says the windshield was 1100 bucks!

This has been the topic of many lawsuits against State Farm for years, where they demand not using the OEM high quality parts and force the repair shops to buy from their list of suppliers.

The invoice is a joke it's like a hospital bill everyone really knows the Insh. Company never pays the listed high prices.

State Farm paid much less for the replacement windshield.

What you must do is get the point across to State Farm, that your not just some dumb chump and trust me the people at State Farm do think we all are stupid chumps. I have had a lot of dealing with SF and many other Insh. bushwackers. And trying to be a nice guy get you thought of as a stupid chump. And they give you what they feel they can get away with.

If people would look closely at their policies they will find all the little items giving the Insh. Company the right to not use OEM parts when they can find other parts cheaper.

I still would demand the higher quality windshield even if I had to put a little extra with what ever they allow to get what I want.

Remember the more you keep bugging SF the better your chances of getting them to just want you to go away.:

There was an earlier thread on the forum about cracked windshields. I originally posted there and it seems like there are lots of issues with the Toy OEM. Not sure how many actually get them but I opted not to pay an upcharge to get the OEM. Who knows, maybe the replacement is stronger.
I also have SF but this wasn't their issue (I'm also not defending them.) It just happened that my first replacement was a dud but this was between me and Speedy Auto Glass. They gave me no trouble, did an excellent job and were quick to replace it once they saw it.
