Winter Cross Country Road Trip

I will be going on a cross country (daytona beach to seattle) roadtrip in a few weeks with my v6 sr5 4wd and need some input on a few things

will most likely be driving through colorado, wyoming, southern idaho, possible montana (depending on the route) what's the chance that i'll need chains in mid december ( trying to make it home in time for christmas....) and if i need chains, i put LT265/70R17 tires on my truck and have yet to install a lift kit, so there isn't much clearance on the front tires. That being said, should "s" (slim chains) give sufficient clearance in the front or am i better off just getting some to put on the rear tires.

I'd say prepare for snow. Worst case, is you were better off being prepared, rather than having the chance of being caught unprepared.(I learned at least that in all those years as a Boy Scout ) You won't clear chains in the front, they will hit the a-arm, so only buy them for the rear. Odds are you will NOT need them. Trust in your 4WD my friend. Just make sure to drive it in 4HI any time you are around snow, and if it gets bad, pop it into 4LO.

Chain the rear and you'll be fine. Make sure you travel with some water, blankets and flares.

You'll never know what you're getting into. They had to close I70 down just yesterday because we (colorado) got hit with a big storm. If living in Colorado has taught me anything, its not to listen to the weather reporters. Colorado has ADD when it come's to weather and you can never predict what's going to happen. Have fun on the road trip! Every summer I drive to Minnesota from Denver and love every minute of it!
