Winter Maintenance '97 5speed factory locker

Long time lurker since the 4Runner doesn't seem to need as much work as my BMW. But with the weather getting colder, the BMW winterized, and inclement weather just around the corner I want to do a full fluid change my 4Runner is a 97, 5 speed with factory locker and has 274k miles on it.

The car is in nearly perfect condition (rusted center section of the rear bumper is the only thing that is wrong with it), with a new cooling system (system was completely refreshed a year and a half ago), and a timing job at 250k, but I have not addressed the diff and transmission fluids since I bought it at 200k.

I would like to do the following, what is the recommended fluid for the following:
- engine oil
- diff fluid
- tranmission fluid
- brake fluid (depending on how what the tester says)


Is there a difference in diff fluids from the front and rear with the factory locker? Are there any other fluids I should address (brake fluid was completely flushed this summer)?

Planned other maintenance:
- new slave cylinder
- new master cylinder

Assuming you have the 5vz-fe since you have a sunroof.

I recommend GL4 for the tranny since its better for synchro, and GL5 for everything else. But you can get away with using the same oil for front and rear diff, transmission, and transfer case.

I have a factory e locker in the rear. While it does technically call for 75w90 in the front and 90 SAE in the rear (unless you see below zero temps regularly) I've been using a full synthetic 75w90 front and rear and transfer case and haven't had any issues or noticed any additional wear when I had to drain the rear diff to replace my leaking axle seals.

I would add to the list repacking and lubing the rear driveshaft and greasing the front driveshaft. I wouldn't change the master cylinder or slave cylinder unless you are having issues, but that's just my preference. If you do replace the master cylinder there is a specific bleed procedure in the factory service manual that must be followed to avoid a soft pedal. I don't have a manual transmission currently, but most manual owners seem to recommend a GL-4 fluid for better shifting.
